Exposing the Villainous Weifang Policeman Gu Zhiyong

Oct. 14, 2000

Gu Zhiyong, male, 37, is a policeman in the Guangwen police station, Kuiwen District, Weifang city, Shandong province, China. As a tool of the evil forces, he became extremely zealous in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Many times, he illegally led people to steal money from practitioner's homes and destroy Dafa books and Dafa materials. If he didn't find any money, he would search every pocket of the clothes hanging in the closets. He took practitioners from their homes and illegally detained them. If any practitioners resisted following him, he would grab female practitioners by the hair to force them into the police car. His behavior created a very bad impression in the eyes of the local people. Seeing the savage behavior of the police reminded one elderly neighbor of the terrible era during the Cultural Revolution. The recollection caused him extreme mental anguish. His mind became foggy, he lost his appetite, and he became very weak physically. A six year-old little girl naively asked her mother, "The teacher in our kindergarten said the policemen are good people and it is their job to protect our country. Falun Gong practitioners are also good people, but now the policemen are arresting them. Would you say the policemen are good or evil?"

This June, Dafa practitioner Wu Zhiqiang was deceived by Gu during the course of a conversation, and was later sent to a mental hospital. One month later, due to his family's strong appeal, Wu was sent back home. After returning home, his family discovered that he was no longer fully conscious, with his eyes staring blankly and his head stiff. He couldn't recognize people other than his family members and would not eat. Even before he could recover from this, he was deceived once again by Gu and sent to a labor camp for a three year term.

On July 17th, practitioner Qin Yongjie was arrested by Gu while talking at a fellow practitioner's home. He was illegally given a three year term of forced labor. His relatives were not allowed to visit him. Since then, Qin Yongjie has protested by going on a hunger strike.

Another practitioner and his spouse were forced to quit their jobs for insisting on practicing Dafa. They have received no income for more than a year now, even though they have to support both their parents in their eighties and a six year-old child. The entire family has been living on their meager savings. On July 19th, worried about his own position if practitioners went to Beijing to appeal, Gu arrested this practitioner and detained him illegally for 15 days. Moreover, despite the extremely difficult economic situation this family was facing, Gu appropriated their savings of Y1000 (Chinese dollars, about two months' salary of an average worker in Chinese cities).

In Gu's administration area, two Dafa practitioners were illegally sent to labor camps, and dozens of practitioners have been detained illegally.

Because of Gu's savage behavior and the extremely bad impression he has made on the public, and in order to uphold the rule of law as opposed to the rule by the police, we strongly urge the relevant authorities to investigate this case, so that Gu' responsibility for these offences can be officially determined, and so that he might be punished according to the law for what he has done.
