Some Comments on the Persecution of Falun Gong in China

(From translator: The Epoch Times published an article on October 23, 2000 titled "A Historical View of Righteous and Evil Religions桽ome Comments on the Persecution of Falun Gong in China." The following is an abridged translation of this article)

For a long time the history books of the Chinese XX Party have clearly stated that the White Lotus Religion and the Boxers Movement were revolutionary forces and therefore just. They have been regarded as righteous until the Chinese government (controlled by a handful of people with ulterior motives, exemplified by Jiang Zemin) changed its mind and called them evil religions. This occurred as a result of the government's reaction to Falun Gong. In fact, whatever the Chinese XX Party regards them to be is its own business and has nothing to do with Falun Gong.

In today's China, plainclothes police, secret detectives, and public security guards are rampant and boastful. Officials secretly partner up with merchants. Dirty deals are tied to political power and money. An extensive, secret network of connections, which span from the upper strata to the grass roots level, has been formed. Who is organizing secret organizations?

With regards to the issue of worshiping religious leaders, the practitioners of Falun Gong have been criticized for worshiping a religious leader when they only hang up the photo of Mr. Li Hongzhi. Nevertheless, Jiang Zemin asked people from the entire Chinese nation to regard him as the core of the country and to keep in line with him. In the National Day Ceremony of last year he had the people in the parade raise his portrait along side of those of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. He manipulated people to build up his public image by various means. He actually advocated worship of himself (no different than the worship of a religious leader). How could the general public be in line with him?

Regarding the issue of amassing wealth, Mr. Li Hongzhi was accused of accumulating wealth when he earned royalties from several books he wrote and charged a small fee for the classes he gave. However, in China, in addition to the newly exposed Yuanhua Smuggling Case and Zhangjiang Smuggling Case, there are still many extraordinary cases that go unexposed, involving tens of billions, hundreds of billion or even thousands of billions of Yuan (Chinese currency). All of these cases involve the stealthy acquisition of public property by individuals for their own personal use. The public interest has been severely harmed and a great number of people in the Chinese Communist Regime are involved in corruption. Are they not amassing wealth? Even under such awful corruption, the Chinese XX Party still proclaims its greatness and righteousness. Isn't this false reasoning and public subterfuge?

According to recent news reports, the son of Jiang Zemin has almost become the Chinese "Bill Gates," because he has not only political power but also wealth. Because Jiang Zemin has set such a precedence of corruption it will not be difficult for others to follow his example in the years to come. Since the morality of Jiang Zemin, the highest leader of China, has been degraded to such a deplorable degree, is that Party righteous or evil? In the mind of the public the answer is crystal clear.

Do they believe in Marxism and Leninism? Do they still believe in Mao Zedong? Marx, Lenin and Mao Zedong told them to be selfless and sacrifice their own interests for those of the public. On the contrary, what they have done is to steal public property and have no interests other than their own. When you ask them, "What on earth do you believe in?" They will say, "We believe in Communism." In fact, what they meant by "communism" is to carve up the properties that belong to the State and the public and to give it to themselves. They do not believe in Buddhism, Taoism, God or the karmic relationship. They only believe in materialism ?they believe in the actual materials exemplified by money. The top "leaders" of their belief are Jiang Zemin and money. In order to accumulate money and property for themselves, they dare to put the interests of the country at stake and harm the lives and property of the people. They seek after ease and comfort at the expense of the public.

For example, Jiang Zemin allocated a large amount of State funds to purchase his private airplane and construct a luxurious theatre for the high-ranking officials of the Chinese XX Party. The military parade alone in the 50th Anniversary Ceremony of the founding of China cost 5 billion Yuan. In contrast, the students in the countryside have to stay in classrooms that are structurally unsound and eat meals as simple as corn paste served with plain water. Where does the public donation to "Project Hope" go?

Today's China is too sick to be healed with the current "medicine". However, there is one person who uniquely prescribed "Zhen (Truthfulness) ?Shan (Compassion) ?Ren (Forbearance)" for curing the problem. He is Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong. He advocates that a practitioner should emphasize his virtue, cultivate his xinxing (mind nature, morality), endeavor to be selfless and compassionate of others, and give up the desires and attachments of everyday people. If a person practices Falun Gong, the problem of "greed" can be eradicated, corruption can be eliminated, morality can be enhanced, and the world can be pacified. However, throughout history, right does not tolerate wrong and right always struggles with wrong. A corrupt government always hates a "medicine" that can cure corruption. It is always hostile to the newly generated "cells" and protects its own "tumor" instead.

In the past year the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese XX Party has become the most appalling act of trampling upon humanity. They illegally detained and arrested tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners conducting peaceful appeals and cruelly tortured them with various methods such as electric batons, imprisonment, freezing or burning, repeated beatings and more. So far there have been 59 Falun Gong practitioners (editors note: the number has increased to 72 as of this date) who died of abuse, based on the information that has been collected (there may be more including unreported cases). For example,

There are also death cases in which Falun Gong practitioners have been kidnapped, sent to mental hospitals and injected with drugs that damage the central nervous system. Many practitioners were sentenced to forced labor education or even jail terms. Their homes were ransacked and their property confiscated. Others incurred a heavy fine, or were dismissed from their jobs, or forced to leave school. Even their relatives who did not practice Falun Gong were persecuted.

Over the past year the Chinese government made full use of plainclothes police, uniformed police, spies, diplomats, journalists and propaganda tools of the entire country to frame and slander Falun Gong and its founder by twisting and modifying the facts. Their persecution tramples on humanity. They have lost the trust of the people, as well as their good conscience.

Good will be rewarded with good, and evil will be punished with a bad ending. Justice is bound to defeat evil. The time when all the kind-hearted people in the world know the facts about Falun Gong is the time when the evil forces will perish.
