Cultivate Ordinarily, Give and Endure Silently

Aug. 4, 2000

Lei Xiaoting, an English teacher at Beijing Industrial and Business University, received her Master's degree with an English major at Peking University. She worked hard and achieved great success during her studies. She was awarded a certificate of "Brave Behavior for a Just Cause" due to her bravery in fighting with evildoers and her kindness in helping people move out of poverty and danger. After graduation, she became a teacher at Beijing Industrial and Business University. She worked conscientiously and responsibly. She did not make extra money working outside of her regular job using her excellent English ability. She received good comments from the university management as well as fondness and respect from the students.

During those days with her, what I could feel was the heart of her rock--solid determination of Falun Dafa. Without any public praise, she was working for Falun Dafa silently, giving and forbearing. Her kindness and firmness were demonstrated in her ordinary words and conduct, and her righteous mind and benevolence touched everyone around her.

When she first came to the university, Ms. Lei gave a hand to the assistant silently at the practice site. She was recommended to be the assistant later since the practitioners felt she had cultivated very well. She tried her best and treated everyone with sincerity, which had greatly helped other practitioners with their determination of Falun Dafa cultivation. Later, we happened to learn that she had already obtained Falun Dafa in 1993 and worked as an assistant at a practice site at Peking University.

There is nothing very spectacular in her cultivation. She fulfilled her duty quietly with contribution and endurance. When her students were sick, she would visit them every one or two days and provide financial assistance. In order to save time to study the Fa more, she would usually take only steamed buns and salted vegetables as a meal.

Last July 20, Ms. Lei was leading her students to have military training at a base. After hearing about the news (Falun Gong would be banned in China), she immediately left the military base to appeal. After appealing, no matter how the local police threatened and detained her, she refused to give the name of the person who informed her. Finally, the police said, "I really respect you for not revealing anything. Actually, I did not believe much about what was said in the newspaper, either."

In October 1999, Ms. Lei attended the Falun Dafa press conference in Beijing and worked as a translator. The foreign news reporters spread the truth and the facts of the brutal persecution and torture imposed on Falun Dafa practitioners in China to the entire world.

Several days later, at night, Beijing police took her away from her dormitory. Nothing has been heard about her since then. Occasionally, some practitioners out of jail talked about her: "She was very steadfast and didn't say anything."

This past April, her parents discovered that she was secretly sentenced to two years in jail. When her parents, who love her so much, came to visit her and pressured her with their sentiment, Ms. Lei said calmly, " I will say nothing." Last year, the officials at her university asked her mother to convince her to change her mind. Her mother said, "Aren't you afraid of imprisonment?" She said, "No, I'm not."

As a common element in Falun Dafa, Ms. Lei does not have many big and extraordinary words, rather, she is harmonizing Falun Dafa with her ordinary but firm righteous thoughts, and becomes a piece of the stone foundation in Falun Dafa, indestructible and unbreakable like diamond. " Any external form has no way to destroy her but to give up in front of her, as she remains steadfast under the thunder storm."

There are tens of thousands of determined practitioners in Falun Dafa like Lei Xiaoting. Their "rock-solid hearts in Dafa have strongly stabilized Dafa's spreading in the human world"
