(Clearwisdom.net) On the eve of President Bush's trip to Shanghai, China (October 12, 2001) to attend the informal conference of country leaders of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), Falun Dafa practitioners in America submitted over 100,000 signatures of appeal from the American people to President Bush via the Postal Office in the White House. They requested that President Bush, during his meeting with Chinese leaders in Shanghai, urge Jiang Zemin's regime to stop the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and immediately release Dr. Chunyan Teng, a U.S. permanent resident, illegally imprisoned in China. They asked that she be brought back to be united with her family members in the U.S.
Western Falun Dafa practitioners spearheaded the process of submitting the signatures. The Dafa practitioners carrying boxes of signatures, representing the wishes of the American people, walked across Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House, entered the Postal Office in the White House and handed the signatures over to the office staff. Reporters from Radio Free Asia interviewed them on the spot and covered the whole process.
These signatures were collected in supermarkets, in local communities, at tourist sites, and in all parts of America by Dafa practitioners during their weekends or spare time over the last several months. To rescue fellow practitioners being tortured cruelly by Jiang Zemin's criminal group, the American practitioners spoke the truth about the cruel persecution against Falun Gong to all walks of American people. More and more kind-hearted American people came to know the evil acts of Jiang Zemin's regime using state terrorism to brutally persecute innocent Falun Gong practitioners.
Many people signed their names and left their addresses one after another, especially when they heard that Dr. Chunyan Teng, an American permanent resident, had been secretly sentenced to three years in prison for documenting and disclosing to Western news media the activities inside Chinese mental hospitals in which healthy practitioners were forcefully detained and tortured. Those who signed requested that President Bush and American Government try their best through diplomatic means to push for the release of Dr. Chunyan Teng and help her unite with her family members.
