á1. [Shiyan, Hubei Province] Staff at the Shiyan Brainwashing Class Torture Dafa Practitioners

After July 20, 2001, the brainwashing class in Maojian District escalated its persecution of Dafa practitioners. Mei Fang, the Deputy Chief of the Science and Technology Bureau in Maojian District and "The Head chief" (in fact, should be considered the primary perpetrator) as he instructed staff members and security guards to beat Dafa practitioners viciously. He was also personally and directly involved in the beatings. He holds tremendous hatred toward Dafa practitioners. Liao Dafu, Mei's right-hand man is the Deputy Director of a Neighborhood Committee. He is also primarily responsible for the beating of practitioner Yu Jian whose bones were broken as a result. Chen Jiangui, Department Chief of a company in Maojian District, also revealed his wicked nature after July 20th of this year. These three staff members mentioned above have openly beaten Dafa practitioners.

On July 20, between 5: am and 6 am, in an attempt to protest against the two-year evil persecution of Falun Dafa, 18 practitioners detained there held a group practice. After they were stopped, the practitioners started to recite "Lunyu" and poems in Hongyin. It was magnificent. The brainwashing class called in more than twenty police officers who then took away Lu Kehua, Yu Jian, Chen Qingfang, Zhao Qingliang, Leng Huimin, Zhu Xirong and the rest of the practitioners to the Police Sub-station.

On July 21, Guan Jinghao, a 61-year-old male practitioner, was handcuffed and placed in confinement for calling Mei Fang a political hooligan.

On the morning of July 22, for punishment the guards forced practitioners to stay in a playground under the burning sun, for not cooperating with their drill. Zhao Qingliang (male) refused to cooperate, and was handcuffed and physically beaten for not being able to stand during the torture. The handcuffs left terrible marks on both of his wrists. In the afternoon, Lu Kehua and Yu Jian were also beaten, handcuffed and placed in confinement.

On July 23, Yu Jian was beaten, and his right rib was broken as a result. Zhu Xirong was also handcuffed and positioned on his back, and placed in confinement.

On July 24, a male Dafa practitioner (note: gender unidentified) was placed in confinement.

On July 25, Xu Zhi, a security guard, became involved and placed a female practitioner, Hu Lili, in confinement.

2. [Harbin, Heilongjiang Province] Changlinzi Labor Camp in Harbin Torture Dafa Practitioners in Special Cells

The criminal groups of Jiang Zemin have two concentration camps where Dafa practitioners are detained and tortured. One of them is the Wanjia Labor Camp where 15 Dafa practitioners have been tortured to death. The other one is the Changlinzi Labor Camp, which began another round of torture against Falun Gong practitioners at the end of June 2001.

According to the methods of torture used, the special cells of the Changlinzi Labor Camp can be categorized into two different types. Type one requires an individual to remain squatting without sitting or standing. The other type requires the individual to stand immobile for a long period of time. Dafa practitioners had been subjected to these treatments typically for 15 days straight without sleep. When the torture had not yet ceased more than ten practitioners began a hunger strike, demanding the release of those practitioners who were being subjected to the brutal tortures. The following morning, the number of people going on hunger strike had reached more than eighty. On July 4, the vicious Camp staff released only a few practitioners from the torture and kept the rest. Later the Camp gathered the family members of the practitioners who were on hunger strike, in order for them to talk the practitioners into giving up the hunger strike.

We appeal to all kind-hearted individuals and organizations for their close attention to these matters.

3. [Guangzhou, Guangdong Province] The Intermediate Court of Guangzhou Plans Unlawful Public Trial of Dafa Practitioners

The Intermediate Court of Guangzhou will hold a public trial of several Falun Gong practitioners including Shi Lei and Fan Haiqin, on August 6, 2001, at 9:00 am. This trial is unlawful.

4. [Nongan, Jilin Province] The Oil Refining Factory of Nongan County in Jilin Dismisses Dafa Practitioners Unlawfully

On July 9, 2001, the Oil Refining Factory of Nongan County in Jilin decided to dismiss two practitioners, Zhang Shuli (still imprisoned illegally) and Wang Liqin, for exercising their legal right to go to Beijing to appeal on April 30.

5. [Songyuan, Jilin Province] The Criminal Acts of A Deputy Secretary for Jilin Province

Lin, the Deputy Secretary who is in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in Jilin, said to practitioners in the second brainwashing class in Songyuan City: "You want to keep practicing, don't you? Then, come here and talk to me. The buck stops here in Jilin. Let me show you how I will handle you!" A practitioner present, refused to listen to his vicious words, consequently, Lin ordered the police officers to take him away and yelled at the top of his lungs: " Send him to a labor camp. Now!" Later, we heard from the police that the torture methods and instruments they used on this practitioner are normally reserved for criminals with serious offenses.

6. [Lingyuan, Liaoning Province] Police Rob Millions of Yuan in Cash and Properties from Dafa Practitioners

The Public Security Bureau of Lingyuan in Liaoning, particularly its divisions including Political and Security Section, Legal Section and various sub-stations have been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners viciously, causing a great deal of mental, physical and financial harm to the practitioners and their families. Since July 20, 1999, there have been more than 1,000 arrests. Many people were fined without any reason given. Payments were demanded under different names including surety bonds, guarantee money or penalties. The amounts varied from 500 Yuan (-Note: Chinese currency; the average monthly income of an urban worker in China is approx. 500 Yuan) to tens of thousands of Yuan. Moreover, some police officers even extorted money from practitioners' families, in order to pay for their meal expenses and mobile phone bills; otherwise, they wouldn't release the practitioners. The police extorted large sums of up to 30,000 Yuan from some of the families, consequently these families became heavily in debt. According to preliminary statistics, the total amount of these type of funds would have reached as much as a million Yuan over the course of the last two years.

However, when taking this huge amount of money, the police have never issued any official receipt. When Falun Gong practitioners or their family members demanded receipts, the police responded rudely, "Who took your money? Did you get a receipt?"

So, it was obvious that the money never made it to the official book.

7. [Aotou City, Guangdong Province] Local Toy Company Receives Retribution for Unjust Acts Toward Falun Gong Practitioners

In July of 2001, Aodi Toy Manufacturing Company fired a Falun Gong practitioner for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to his fellow co-workers. Now the company officials have received retribution for their unjust deed. Another company in the city of Dongwan has sued them for copyright infringements and is demanding 350 million Yuan in damages.

In June, another employee at the same company spoke out to the people around him the truth about Falun Gong, but the company officials lost their ability to distinguish right from wrong. They tried to force him to give up practicing Falun Gong and forbade him to mention Falun Gong to others. Around that time, two rounds of typhoons assaulted the city. The company's inventory in storage suffered extensive water damage. It was a warning to the Aodi officials, but they have completely ignored the warning.

8. [Boxing County, Shandong Province] Eleven Female Practitioners Go to Beijing to Appeal for Falun Gong

Around July 22 of this year, eleven female practitioners from the Pangjia Township, Boxing County, Shandong Province went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. So far, more than 270 local practitioners have openly declared their intentions to continue their cultivation in Falun Gong. The local officials have started a brainwashing class. Several dozen practitioners were kidnapped and forced to attend the class.

9. [Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province] Officials Waste Local Citizens' Money to Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

The city of Suihua is experiencing severe financial difficulties. The local government has not received enough funding from the province, and many residents have been laid off from their jobs. In spite of that, the local government has still detained a large number of practitioners and agreed to pay 20,000 Yuan to the Suihua Labor Camp for "administration charges" for each practitioner. The Suihua Labor Camp has added more than a dozen fake names to their actual tallies to milk more money out of the local government.

10. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] The Shuangzihe Labor Camp Illegally Detains Falun Gong Practitioners and Forces Them to Package Expired Medicine

Several hundred Falun Gong practitioners are being detained in the Shuangzihe Labor Camp in the city of Qiqihar. They are being forced to work in the pharmaceutical company inside the labor camp. According to insiders, this so-called pharmaceutical company's sole business is repackaging old medicine that has long expired and then selling it on the open market.

11. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Those Who Participated in the Shulan Experience Sharing Conference Are Urged to Watch Out For Their Safety

According to reliable sources, a list of the names of the practitioners who participated in the Shulan Experience Sharing Conference has fallen into the hands of the Jilin City police. The police are going down the list and arresting practitioners at their homes after 9PM each day. Those practitioners who refuse to give up practicing Falun Gong are being sent to prison or labor camps.

We once again warn Jiang Zemin, the "human rights scoundrel," cease your evil doings immediately. Otherwise retribution awaits you.

12. [Guangdong Province] A Retired Engineer in his 70s is Forced to Flee from His Home

Chen Jianzhang is a retired engineer from the Guangdong Province Teaching College. He is in his 70s and has been practicing Falun Gong for a number of years. Falun Gong has brought a tremendous amount of benefit to him both physically and mentally. He has been placed under virtual house arrest since July of 1999. Six months later, his former employer announced his expulsion from the Communist Party. He has suffered a great deal because of his beliefs in Falun Gong. At the end of July 2001, he was forced to flee from his home.

13. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] An Example of Retribution for Bad Deeds

Sun Baozhong, a villager at the Jutong Village, Gaotong Township, Fushan District, Yantai City has held a hostile attitude toward Falun Gong for a long time. His son was also greatly influenced by his views. At the end of June, the son saw a Falun Gong flyer posted on the street and tore it to pieces. The next day, he drowned when he went to take a bath in the river. He was only 14 years old.
