"This is a meaningful walk"

Aug. 10, 2001

The 452-mile SOS Walk by UK practitioners which ran through the UK from North to South, lasted 20 days, and passed more than 20 cities and towns in Scotland and England. The Walk ended in London.

The Walk began at the Chinese Consulate in the historic city of Edinburgh on July 11. After nine days of strenuous walking, practitioners arrived in the third largest city in the UK, Manchester, on July 20 and joined the grand parade held in Manchester for the two-year anniversary of 7.20.

After a one-day rest, they started the walk again from the Chinese Consulate in Manchester, and headed South to London. A Western practitioner who has practiced for only three months also joined the Walk. After another 10 days of hard walking in the burning sun, they arrived on time in London on August 1.

Practitioner passed Downing Street where the Prime Minister lives, the Foreign Ministry, Buckingham Palace, and St. James Palace. They delivered appeal letters to the Prime Minster, Foreign Minister, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Charles and were permitted to walk into 10 Downing Street. In the afternoon, they arrived at the destination of the Walk, the Chinese Embassy in London, and joined the practitioners who were doing a 24-hour vigil in front of the Embassy.
