Practitioners in Qinghai Province

A Beijing citizen wrote a letter to a relative in the United States, as follows:

In China, many Falun Gong practitioners were put into jail simply due to their belief. I always consider that freedom of belief should be respected. This is a symbol of civilization. I do not believe Jiang Zemin will succeed in eradicating Falun Gong.

Give my regards to Falun Dafa practitioners.

According to inside sources, on January 2, 2002, female practitioner He Miao from Bayan County of Heilongjiang Province was given emergency treatment in Wanjia's Forced Labor Camp hospital. Her life is in danger. The following is her story.

In July 2001, policemen from Harbin City's Police Department arrested practitioner He Miao and a male practitioner named Deng Weiguo. Mr. Deng died after falling from the 12^th floor, to avoid illegal detention. He Miao was transferred to the Wanjia Labor Camp for brutal persecution. She was tortured with all imaginable means. But with her determined belief she went on a hunger strike to bargain for an unconditional release and request the abusive policemen to stop torturing and murdering practitioners. The wardens maliciously beat her and locked her up in a damp and cold solitary compartment. The doctor in the labor camp, with the aid of abusive policemen, brutally force-fed her. In that abominable environment she suffered from scabies and painful blisters that were full of pus. Some parts of her body had raw open sores, which were extremely painful. She was tortured to the point of becoming emaciated and had difficulty breathing. Her life is in extreme danger.

I am a Falun Dafa practitioner from Siping City. On December 24, 2001, the last term of my detention, practitioners detained in the Liaoyuan, Tonghua, and Baishan Districts were transferred to Changchun City's Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. After entering the labor camp we were searched three times. Some of our bedding quilts were torn apart. After we were put into cells, the head of the cell, a criminal inmate and other criminals forced us to hold the position called "riding an airplane" (In this torture, the head is bent down until it cannot go down any further, while the hands are pulled up and held up to the highest point. The hips have to point up.) They forced me to only wear pants and beat my buttocks with a bed board, which made me scream in pain. I could hear screaming upstairs and downstairs. They stuffed my mouth with socks, as they feared my shouting. They beat, kicked, and abused me while forcing me to write the "repentance statement." My left ear was beaten so severely that my hearing was impaired. They said, "You knew you'd be dead when you entered the cell. We just torture you. There is an order from the higher authorities that you can be beaten to your last breath and then revived. Your death will be like nothing happened. Our Chaoyanggou Labor Camp authority has a good relationship with the funeral home. It costs nothing for cremation. Furthermore, there are dogs behind the building."

In this labor camp, criminals are ordered to monitor practitioners around the clock. The wardens said, "After the New Year's Day, all the practitioners from Heilongjiang Province, Jilin Province and Liaoning Province will be transferred here. The labor camp will be a base for persecuting Falun Gong. The new building is being set up out back."

After the killing of practitioner Zhang Min had been exposed, the criminals in Yilan County of Heilongjiang Province persecuted practitioners even more relentlessly. By New Year's Eve alone, more than forty additional practitioners were illegally arrested.

In December 2001, policemen from Fuxing County collaborated with a man by the last name of Jiang to brutally beat up two female practitioners who refused to tell their names. The two practitioners are in their 30's and 50's, respectively. They were arrested while distributing truth-clarifying materials in Fuxing County, and then were forcibly sent to the Jintang Detention Center. During the detention period, as the practitioners refused to cooperate with the lawless policemen, they were beaten so severely that bruises covered their whole bodies. They suffered brutal tortures everyday. The tragic scene made even murderers detained there wail out loud. The women's resolute faith in cultivating Dafa has never waived a bit. They were handcuffed day and night, however. During the night their hands could miraculously slip out of the handcuffs, which astonished the criminal inmates who were prisoners there.

Enforcers from Jintang County's Political and Judiciary Department usually arrested practitioners at night. They duped practitioners into opening the door or the thugs simply kicked the door open. They ransacked practitioners' homes without any warrant or legal search papers. Once they spotted a piece of truth-clarifying material or a picture of Teacher, they would forcibly take the practitioners away and detain them. They would not release the practitioners unless their family members paid 8,000 to 10,000 Yuan. They grabbed all the cash and account passbooks they saw. (The monthly rural income in China is 500 Yuan).

Around midnight on December 20, six people from the Huaikou Police Station, including Wang Wenshu, Chen Youyi and deputy director Yang again did the same thing to practitioner Tao Shouhui. They kicked the door open, ransacked the practitioner's home and grabbed more than 800 Yuan from him. This practitioner is over 50 years old, single, and lives on his retirement pension, which is less than 100 per month. Practitioner Tao is now forced to live in exile to avoid further persecution.

Since January, in order to prevent practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal, the Police Department of Quyang County, including the Traffic Police authorities, set up checkpoints at a main road tollbooth to check people's I.D. cards. Those who did not have their I.D. card with them were not allowed to leave Quyang County. Transportation companies would have a 600 Yuan fine imposed or have their bus impounded if they had a passenger who did not have an I.D. card. People were saying, "Falun Gong really scares them."

Just before the New Year's Day, persons from the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) in Mengyang Town began another round of cruel persecution against practitioners. They arrested, framed, made false accusations against and extorted money from practitioners. The means they used were venomous.

Practitioners who were illegally arrested on November 29, 2001 are still held at the government compound of Mengyang Town. There the practitioners are still enduring tortures. On the day the practitioners were arrested, officials from the "610 Office" and from the town government not only personally brutally beat practitioners at the supermarket, but also beat up the practitioners with the help of some hired roughnecks in the backyard of the town government compound. Some of them beat practitioners so hard with bamboo strips and wooden sticks that some practitioners' bones were broken and some of their eyes were bleeding. The purpose of this gruesome abuse was to extort money. The villains shamelessly demanded 10,000 to 50,000 Yuan every time. As practitioners refused to cooperate with them or hand in money, they locked the practitioners in a dark room and tortured them. Bai Meichun, the assistant town foreman said ferociously, "If you are beaten to death, we will pay the burial fee."

In this cold winter, we are concerned for our fellow practitioners who are illegally detained.
