Studying the Fa with a Calm Mind

Jan. 12, 2002 |   By a Dafa practitioner

(Clearwisdom.net) The first sentence in Master's article, "Towards Consummation" is "Studying the Fa with attachments is not genuine cultivation." In the same article, Master also told us to study the Fa with a calm mind. Here is my understanding of "studying the Fa with a calm mind:"

Studying the Fa with a calm mind does not mean closing the door to create a quiet external environment, while in essence holding onto our attachments. It is quite the opposite: "Being in the chaotic world" ("A Visit to Sun-Moon Pool" in Hongyin, Teacher's book of poetry) today to assist Master in the Fa-rectification, we should study the Fa in a calm manner within the dynamic environment. I understand that by studying the Fa without attachments, we gain naturally without pursuit. Studying the Fa with a calm mind means studying with a clear main consciousness, not simply reciting with one's mouth without engaging the heart. Only when one studies the Fa with a calm mind can one truly obtain the effects described by Master: "The Fa can reveal all attachments, the Fa can eradicate all evils, the Fa can expose and dispel all lies, and the Fa can strengthen righteous thoughts" ("Deter Interference"). Otherwise, one will either enlighten along an evil path or will not truly take the Fa into one's mind or assimilate to the Fa.

Studying the Fa with a calm mind fundamentally helps practitioners to effectively send forth righteous thoughts and better clarify the truth.
