World Journal Daily: Falun Gong Practitioners in Boston Call for Help to Rescue Their Family Members Who Are Being Persecuted in China

Dec. 6, 2002

(Clearwisdom.net) World Journal Daily reported on December 1 that the MIT Chapter of Amnesty International (AI), the MIT Human Rights and Justice Association, and the MIT Falun Gong Club jointly held a symposium entitled "Rescue Our Family Members Who Are Suffering in China." The meeting was part of the global "Rescue our family members" campaign launched by Falun Gong practitioners.

At the symposium, several practitioners in the Boston area talked about the persecution that their family members in China have been suffering and their worrisome situation, and they hoped kindhearted people can extend their helping hands to rescue their family members.

Dr. He Haiying, a researcher at the Cancer Research Center at Harvard University, has three family members in China who also practice Falun Gong. His mother Huang Yanyun, brother He Haiyou, and sister He Haiyan are all being persecuted in China. His mother was sentenced to one-and-a-half years of forced labor and detained at a drug rehabilitation center. After her term expired, the police still wouldn't free her. Later, her work unit bailed her out, but she is still under 24 hours surveillance.

His brother was sentenced to 10 years of prison in 2002 because he refused to give up his belief in Dafa. His whereabouts remain unknown to this day.

His sister was sentenced to one-and-a half years of forced labor education for distributing Dafa materials. She was released 2 months ago. However, she is still monitored 24 hours a day, deprived of her personal freedom.

Computer engineer Liang Yufeng's sister, Liang Shaolin, was an employee at Maoming City Petroleum Company in Guangdong Province. Because she practiced Falun Gong, she was detained by her work unit in September 1999. In January 2000, she was sentenced to 2 years of forced labor education and detained at Sanshui Forced Labor Camp. In April 2002, she was taken back to Maoming City, where she remains in detention to this day.

Recalling the touching stories of their family members, the practitioners are eager to see their loved ones freed in the near future. They hope that with the help of the international community and kindhearted people everywhere, the persecution can soon come to an end.

The staff members of the MIT chapter of AI expressed their deep concern over the persecution and they promised that they would take further steps to help rescue those innocent people who are being persecuted in China.
