Toronto follower Jason Loftus said Ottawa has confirmed Chinese authorities were holding Adrian Sturdza and Dave Thompkins of Toronto, Thomasz Ozimek of Edmonton, Dan Rintoul of Calgary, Sophia Palfrey of Vancouver, and Andrea Haley of Victoria.
Loftus, a University of Toronto student, who was expelled from China this week after his arrest in a similar protest, said he was beaten and denied contact with the Canadian Embassy during the 27 hours he was held.
He said the protests will continue.
"It's not just a Chinese issue. It's a world issue and we're not going to stop until the persecution is over," Loftus said.
