It has been reported that Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Zaofeng from Daming County, Hebei Province was tortured to the verge of death in Shijiazhuang City, and that Liu Zaofeng died on July 1, 2002 as a result of torture.

Falun Dafa practitioner Wang Xiangchun (female) from Benxi, Liaoning Province was forcibly taken to the municipal detention center on November 9, 2001 by police who illegally broke into her home. Wang was held in custody for almost eight months without being allowed to see her visiting family members even once. She was secretly put on trial and received a prison sentence. There was neither a public trial nor notification to family members, and Wang was sentenced to 5 years of prison. It has been learned that there are five other Falun Dafa practitioners who have been unjustly sentenced: Chen Shuwen (8 years), Cong Fulan (female, 8 years), Zhou Yuyan (female, 6 years), Wang Lijuan (female, 3 years), and Zhang Cuizhen (female, 3 years). It is likely that authorities of the detention center will soon transfer these six Falun Dafa practitioners to the Dabei Prison for continued persecution.

Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Keqiang, male, 56-years-old, was an employee of Tianshui City Transportation Company. Yang was sent to the detention center by the police in Tianshui on May 8, 2002 for severe persecution, which lasted over thirty-three days. At some point, Yang suffered a mental collapse due to the abuse in the detention center.

At 3:00 PM on May 29, 2002, Ge Jiang and Jia Baochen from the "610 Office" in Anqiu City, Shandong Province led over a dozen policemen from Jiage Police Station to illegally break into Ma Yongfa's home. [The "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.] The police took away Falun Dafa books, cassette tapes, two sets of tape recorders, and over eight-hundred Yuan in cash. [The average monthly salary of an urban worker is about 500 Yuan.] Ma Yongfa's wife, Zhou Shouping, a Falun Dafa practitioner, was taken to the municipal detention center. No visits from family members were permitted, nor were clothes allowed to be sent in. Her family was also extorted two hundred Yuan for so-called "living expenses."

One week later, a police officer from the "610 Office" told Ma Yongfa's family to complete the process of taking Zhou Shuping home. After the family members were deceived [to show up at the office], authorities coerced them to turn in five to ten thousand Yuan (equivalent to over a year's average income) before releasing Zhou, who would otherwise face three years of forced labor. Zhou's family had no choice but to borrow the money and turn it in. The authorities promised to release Zhou in a few days. However, days later, not only was Zhou not released, she was forcibly sent to the brainwashing class run by the "610 Office." The officials claimed that no one will be released unless he or she gives up their faith. What these police officers did was to intentionally lie to the people, keep no promises, break the law instead of enforcing it, and deceive ordinary citizens.

Currently Ma Yongfa has been forced to leave his home with no place to stay, and Zhou Shuping remains in detention. Two schoolchildren are left at home with no one to take care of them.

Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Huiyong, male, 29-years-old, is from Lishu County, Jilin Province. Yang was unjustly sent to forced labor camp in late 2000. He broke out of Siping Forced Labor Camp in August 2001 after a hunger strike. He was arrested in February 2002 by the National Security Bureau in Siping City, and suffered from extremely cruel torture. Bamboo sticks were inserted underneath the nails of all of his ten fingers. He has been transferred to Changchun City, Jilin Province. It is not clear what his current situation is like.

Falun Dafa practitioner Zang Yinyun, male, over 30 years of age, is from Lishu County, Jilin Province. Zang was brutally tortured during interrogations after he was arrested. It is not clear what his current situation is like.

Since many Falun Gong material production sites have been damaged and fellow practitioners placed under arrest, the task of clarifying the truth of Falun Gong is facing quite some difficulties.

Chen Yongjiang, the deputy Party secretary of Siping City, has been in charge of government agencies since the beginning of 2002 to place nearly one hundred fifty Falun Dafa practitioners under arrest. He also directed these agencies to damage several sites where Falun Dafa materials were kept, and ordered the torture of many Falun Dafa practitioners.

After the fire incident in an Internet Café in Beijing, the restrictions have become even harsher on Internet Cafés in Qingdao City, Shandong Province. Most Internet Cafés now ask for residential ID cards. All have filtering software installed, and some even block all overseas websites.

The news media in Qingdao City are quite evil as well. Every now and then, footage of fabricated lies from CCTV's "Focus and Interviews" program which slanders Dafa is aired. The frequency of these shows is even higher than that on CCTV itself. Also some vicious slandering footage fabricated locally has been aired as well.

This year the entire country has seen higher temperatures than normal. In the past, Qingdao used to enjoy cooler weather than other parts of the country; however, this year, it is no different from other cities. Lately, there hasn't been any breeze, and when taking a stroll on the street at 5:00 PM it still feels like being in a sauna. All the abnormal weather seems to have started since the new mayor and his followers who aggressively participate in persecuting Falun Gong took office.

Several forced labor camps (including those in Zhangshi, Longshan, Masan, and other areas) in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province have been brutally torturing newly arrived Falun Dafa practitioners with beating or sleep-deprivation. What's even more evil is that the authorities have placed the portrait of the founder of Falun Gong on the ground at the door of the reception room. Visiting family members or fellow practitioners have to step on the portrait to enter, and whoever refuses to do so will be placed in custody on the spot.

The Ziyang City Internal Combustion Engine Works has participated in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners since July 20, 1999. The first measure was to sever practitioners' income sources: Those who refused to sign their names [denouncing Falun Gong] have all been removed from their posts or had their paychecks suspended indefinitely. Next, brainwashing classes were held to mentally persecute these innocent and kindhearted people. The police officers in the factory have conducted searches without warrants, carried out unjust arrests, and handed down illegal prison terms to several dozen Falun Gong practitioners. Over one hundred and twenty Falun Dafa practitioners have suffered from the persecution.
