A U.S. Citizen's Letter to President Bush

Aug. 31, 2002

Dear President Bush:

I am writing this letter to help you further understand some facts about the head of the Chinese government, Jiang Zemin, who will be a guest at your ranch in Texas this October.

As the saying goes, "History makes one wise." When one recalls what happened in Germany and the rest of Europe during and after World War II, one can see many similarities between Jiang Zemin and Hitler. Explained below are some of my comparisons and analyses from a historical perspective.

I. Comparing the Gestapo and the Chinese Terrorist Organization, "610 Office"

Jiang Zemin founded the terrorist organization, the "610" Office, which functions in a similar way to the Gestapo. It uses the country's machinery--the military, police and secret agents--to systematically torture and murder Falun Gong practitioners who pursue the Truth. Jiang Zemin's purpose is to sustain his dictatorial rule through this bloody persecution.

II. The "Reichstag's Fire" and The "Tiananmen Self-immolation" Incident

Hitler directed people to carry out the "Reichstag's Fire." When Jiang Zemin lost people's support in the persecution, he staged the "Tiananmen Self Immolation Incident" in order to incite hatred and fear among the people against Falun Gong and to gain popular support for the persecution. Since the beginning of this year, Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners has reached the height of insanity. News of a Falun Gong practitioner having been murdered can be heard almost every day. He has issued a secret order that the police can shoot Falun Gong practitioners who post flyers explaining the facts of Falun Gong.

III. Silence on the Part of the International Community Indulges the Criminal Who Threatens Human Civilization; this Assists the Evil

During World War II, the world initially kept silent in the face of the inhuman persecution of the Jewish people, which stimulated Hitler's growing ambition and resulted in the war being spread into all of Europe. Today, the Chinese dictator is spreading the persecution abroad. Many people keep silent against Jiang Zemin's deeds for the sake of temporary economic and financial interests. Under great pressure, certain individuals from some democratic countries, including Germany and Iceland, even assisted the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

In April of this year, certain people in the German government bowed to Jiang's pressure and obstructed Falun Gong practitioners' peaceful protest in Berlin, prohibiting them from being seen by Jiang. Jiang even demanded that no pedestrians could wear any yellow clothing within his sight, since yellow is the color typically worn by Falun Gong practitioners and is familiar to on-lookers during their many appeals activities.

In June of this year, Jiang Zemin's group exerted pressure on certain individuals in the Icelandic government and provided them with a blacklist. As a result, many Falun Gong practitioners from around the world were not allowed to board planes bound for Iceland. More than 70 Falun Gong practitioners who did enter Iceland were detained for 18 hours in a school building, including my son and myself.

In July of this year, 130 people from various countries around the world were denied entry into Hong Kong and were forcibly repatriated.

In order to stop Jiang Zemin's followers from persecuting and murdering Falun Gong practitioners in China, on March 14, 2002, sixteen Falun Gong practitioners, including four Swiss nationals and one New Zealander, peacefully appealed in Hong Kong but were arrested and charged, then wrongfully pronounced guilty on August 15. This incident proved that Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong has spread into Hong Kong. He used some individuals in the Hong Kong government, such as the police and the judge, and did serious damage to human rights and "the rule of law" in Hong Kong, which has severely damaged the freedom and the future of Hong Kong.

In early August of this year, the Cambodian government gave in to the Jiang regime's high pressure tactics and violated international law by publicly kidnapping two Falun Gong practitioners who were legal refugees, a status granted them by the United Nations, and sent them back to China. Right now, these two Falun Gong practitioners are detained in Changsha City of Hunan Province and are facing possible torture and even death.

Looking back at the six years of World War II, more than 90 million people around the world were injured or killed, while economic losses amounted to 4,000 billion US dollars. When we look back at history we cannot help but ask, "Why did the democratic countries condone the evil? Why did they sit there and watch Germany, Italy and Japan growing stronger day by day, until they struck the fatal blow to these democratic countries?"

IV. A Threat to the World

Jiang Zemin's group has adopted the tactics of Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels who poisoned the world with "pirate" logic, stating, "Repeat a lie thousand times, and it will become the truth." Jiang Zemin brainwashes all Chinese people by strictly controlling the media and the Internet. He also brainwashes Chinese people abroad by purchasing and controlling Chinese newspapers in Western countries. He further uses the Chinese state-run, controlled and censored channel CCTV-4 to instigate fanatic nationalistic sentiments, spread hatred toward democratic Western countries, and interfere in other countries' internal affairs. Just as Michael Ledin from the US Chinese Communist Security Censor Committee said, "...Words to describe the American government, and the motivation of the American leaders, they claimed, are all unfriendly, aggressive and hostile. We think, generally, a country's government believes in its own words, as the words of the government are the axes of the government's policy-making."

Another fact is that military spending in China in the year 2001 was 1,700 billion Yuan according to government data, but the actual number might be four times greater. On the world stage, the Jiang regime continues to support terrorist countries by supplying them weapons of mass-destruction, yet amidst the U.S.-led intensification of anti-terrorism efforts, Jiang visited Libya and the "axis of evil" nation, Iran, last April. It is disturbing for us to hear our would-be guest tell Mr. Gaddafi, referring to the United States 1986 counterstrike directed at Gaddafi's compound, that "the Americans destroyed the walls, but were incapable of destroying principles."1á Later, he explicitly told the Iranian leaders, "Beijing's policy is against strategies of force and the US military presence in Central Asia and the Middle East region."2 "One of the primary issues for China is to protect developing countries from the irrational actions of the United States."

V. Economically Draw in Small Countries

Last year, Jiang used money to draw in some small countries, and together with other countries with poor human rights records, they voted the U.S, a country that has contributed greatly to the protection of human rights in the world, off of the U.N Human Rights Committee.

According to a commentary in the Asian Wall Street Journal on June 24 by Mr. Wolfe, a senior researcher at California's Hoover Research Institute, and also an international economics consultant at the Rand Corporation, "For 15 years, direct foreign investments have been the most important factor for China's fast growing economy. Most blood running inside the artery of China's economy is from overseas." According to the calculation by overseas experts, every 10 billion dollars of foreign capital would contribute to a 0.9% to 1.6% increase in China's GDP each year.

The Jiang regime's great economic surplus from the U.S provides the monetary resources for his policies that directly damage the interests of the U.S.

Corruption is a widespread trend among officials in Jiang's government. In 1998, as much as 10% of all China's GDP, 850 billion Yuan were embezzled or earned by graft, a trend that is ever on the rise. This trend toward corruption and bribery has also directly eroded foreign investment. It has inhibited or even directly restricted some foreign people in the political or business fields-- people who were originally willing to believe that China would uphold human rights, democracy and freedom.

VI. Amnesty International Calls Jiang Zemin a "Human Rights Scoundrel"

According to the August 18th report from the Voice of America, professor Canter at the University of Australia, who specializes in the study of China's human rights record, thinks that in order to tighten business connections with Beijing and clinch a tremendous amount of natural gas contracts, Australia keeps a low key profile concerning criticism of China's human rights condition. She said, "The Australian people can see that Canberra successfully sold tremendous amounts of natural gas to China, and they realize that Australia was very successful in the business sector; however, on the issue of human rights, this mutual dialogue has not done anything to improve China's human rights record."

In August 2002, Dr. Heinz Schurmann-Zeggel, spokesman for Amnesty International/Australia said, when talking about the Sino-Australia human rights dialogue, "I especially want to mention the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong, its treatment of the Xinjiang Uigur minority people, its extremely strict suppression and use of executions. In the three months of 2001, China executed more people than the total in all other countries in the last three years. Other than this, the Chinese government also suppressed pro-democracy and active worker's unionists, continued to restrict freedom of speech and to make use of torture in jails and labor camps. From these aspects, we think the Sino-Australia human rights dialogue did not receive any positive outcome."

On May 30, 2001, the Amnesty International published the names of five "human rights scoundrels," and Jiang Zemin was one of them.

William Schulz, the group's U.S. director said, "We include Jiang Zemin for maintaining the Chinese ruling Party's grip on power through the widespread use of torture, persecution of minority groups and the denial of freedom of speech, freedom of association and religion." He especially mentioned the Beijing authorities' banning of Falun Gong and detention of many American Chinese, including Gao Zhan.

VII. Create and Promote Domestic National Terrorism

With increasing attention from the world, Jiang Zemin gave the order to "kill them without pardon," referring to Falun Gong practitioners. Before that, on June 10, 1999, the Central Government's "610 Office" was set up to specialize in coordinating and implementing the persecution of Falun Gong. Jiang ordered the "610 Office" to apply against Falun Gong practitioners the policy of "beating them to death is as if nothing happened; a beating death will be counted as suicide." According to official internal government statistics, the actual number of practitioners who died after being arrested had reached 1,600 by the end of 2001. In addition, there are at least 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners who have been illegally sentenced to prison. Over 20,000 practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor camps. More than a thousand practitioners have been forcefully sent to psychiatric hospitals to be tortured with injections that are damaging to the central nervous system. Large groups of Falun Gong practitioners have been forcefully sent to local brainwashing classes, where they have been subjected to both physical and mental torture. Many more practitioners have been severely beaten and had large sums of money extorted from them. When a large number of Falun Gong practitioners are beaten to death, injured, and their families are broken up, when they have to leave home and go from place to place because of the persecution, millions of Falun Gong practitioners' families, relatives, good friends and colleagues are also implicated and brainwashed to varying degrees.

VIII. Inherit and Instill Anti-U.S. Ideology and Policy of Media Control

When the September 11th terrorist attack took place, it shocked the world. Several thousand innocent lives were destroyed. The victims came from 86 countries. The world media denounced this inhuman, demonic action, yet in China, many people cheered. This is the inevitable result of the ruling Party's many years of supporting villainous countries, the instillation of hateful, anti-U.S. sentiments, and the control of media and the deprivation of the people's right to the facts. After Jiang Zemin came into power, he inherited the legacy of hatred and control over the media, which were fully reflected by the widespread anti-U.S. feelings and actions of the Chinese people during the "Chinese consulate bombing" and plane crash incidents in 2001.

Doing business with a dictator who cannot tolerate "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance" is very dangerous. Amnesty International believes that the human rights situation in China was not improved by its expanding global trade ties. Especially in 2001, the severe human rights violations increased. With the silence and acquiescence from Western countries, Jiang Zemin continues to deceive the Chinese people and the world's people, developing his ambitions and fortifying his autocratic rule and dictatorship. His daily growing dictatorial ambitions are a real threat to democracy, freedom and peace in the world.

Falun Gong practitioners earnestly practice "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance." They selflessly tell people the facts about Falun Gong around the world. In China especially, the Falun Gong practitioners are risking their lives to tell the facts to people. They are a group of spiritual people who, when faced with violence, abuse and murder, "...have the courage to risk their lives for the sake of the Truth, " (from, "Teaching the Fa at the Washington, D.C. Fa Conference") and selflessly dedicate themselves to peace among the people. They sincerely hope there will be a good future for China and the U.S, and the whole world will become filled with sincerity, kindness and tolerance.

Mr. President, I believe in history. I believe that in the near future, Jiang Zemin will be put on the stand of justice, just like the former president of Yugoslavia.

This letter represents the sincere voice of a U.S citizen. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Sincerely Yours,
