Clarifying the Truth to Lawyers

Oct. 25, 2003 |   By a practitioner in Taiwan

(Clearwisdom.net reported on October 8, 2003)

Master said in "Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Midwest-U.S. Fa Conference," "Wherever there's a problem, that is where we should go clarify the facts--judges, lawyers, and the various people involved in the suit are all people we should clarify the facts to. Once the human minds are rectified, the court will stand on the side of justice." When our contact person suggested that those who are capable participate in talking to lawyers about Falun Gong and seeking their signatures for our petition, my human notions restrained me. I thought to myself, lawyers are rather verbose; we should have those who speak well talk to them. But then, I realized that we are very pressed for time and since I do not work full-time, I should participate. From studying Master's lectures, I enlightened that practitioners with righteous thoughts and actions are capable of anything. I should approach it with righteous thoughts. So I decided to participate.

Practitioners started planning and preparing all kinds of materials as well as answers to questions lawyers were likely to ask. Do we need to make an appointment? Will they charge us for the conversation? In "Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference," Master Li said,

Sometimes when you folks think about an issue you form a type of habit--"I want to do such and such thing? Here's how I'm going to do this thing? Here's how I'm going to do that thing. You ponder over it a lot and, well, to the point that you feel you've covered everything in a satisfactory way. But when you get down to doing that thing, the real, actual situations can vary in a lot of ways and your plan won't actually work (laughs). And when it doesn't work, you start to ponder it again. That's not how you should do things. Have righteous thoughts! However you think something should be handled, just go ahead and do it, and when you run into problems you will naturally know how to solve them. If your righteous thoughts are strong, everything will work out smoothly and it's guaranteed you'll do well."

We came to the understanding that we would send forth righteous thoughts along the way. When one practitioner was talking, the others would continue to send forth righteous thoughts so they could be saved while listening to the truth in a peaceful environment. No matter what happened, we would respond as true practitioners. We should support each other and maintain our righteous thoughts. In "Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference," Master Li said,

"As for whether the result is good, don't look at the other party, it comes from your minds. If you want it to be good then it will be good. And if you don't intend to make it good, or if your mind is unsteady, then it won't be easy to rectify things. In other words, you need to have strong righteous thoughts."

We did not make any appointments. We just went by the addresses and dropped in on their offices. When the lawyers were in their office, they were usually willing to talk to us. If the lawyer had a client, we would wait. When the lawyer was not in the office, we would leave the materials and our contact information. When they asked about the purpose of our visit, we told them that we were Falun Gong practitioners and that there were lawsuits against Jiang Zemin around the world. In Taiwan, 19 lawyers have proposed supporting the global "Bring Jiang to Justice" campaign in an effort to awaken people's conscience and sense of justice through the legal profession. With your support, we can surely arouse the awareness of the public to human rights and freedom of belief. Do you know about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China? We went on to clarify the truth. No matter how the practitioner responsible for talking approached the subject, we all supported him with righteous thoughts. Each level has the principles for that level and we all treat practitioners with tolerance. In "Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.," Master Li said,

"Also, if there's something lacking in it they'll unconditionally and quietly supplement it to make things more complete and perfect."

During the conversation, we keep reminding ourselves that we should exhibit the demeanor of Dafa practitioners. We believe in the power of kindness and we never argue with them, but maintained a peaceful mentality with no pursuit for desired results. We only did what we needed to do. When some lawyers did not agree with what we said, we still maintained our righteous thoughts and told them at the same time that we only focus on the process and hopefully people will start thinking about it. Whether or not Jiang Zemin will be put on trial is not important, as history will hand out its judgments.

Master said in "Teaching and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference,"

"The same goes for how the world's people view our Dafa. If someone says that it's not good and you debate with him in everyday people's ways, or you try to silence him or the like, that will worsen the disagreement. We should just conduct ourselves well and handle everything with compassion. You don't need to argue or debate with them. People have a side of them that's aware, and they'll be moved on the human surface too. They'll naturally say that you're good."

Once, we handed a package to a lawyer with some scrap paper in it. As the lawyer took the materials, she crumbled the paper in her hand. The practitioner right away apologized and took the scrap paper and put it in her purse. Although it was something very minor, the lawyer took note because she was also concerned with the environment. She said, "It's not easy for you guys. I can see your heart."

No matter how the lawyers responded, we all left our contact information and thanked them for their time. Some were very cold, some changed from being very negative to supporting us, some walked us to the door and were still asking about information. Some signed their names soon after our arrival. Some sent us the signatures by mail after receiving our information. In each case, we followed up with a phone call to express our appreciation.
