Atlanta: Practitioners Collect Signatures to Rescue Ms. Zhou Xuefei on the Campus of Spelman College (Photos)

Nov. 19, 2003

(Clearwisdom.net) In November three years ago, Ms. Zhou Xuefei was abducted when she was telling people the true story about Falun Gong. Later, she was unlawfully sentenced to 3 years of forced labor. She was simply telling the facts. She did not do anything wrong, even less did she commit crimes. Unfortunately, now that the 3 year term is up, Xuefei is still incarcerated in the Sanshui Female Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province.

To expose the evil nature of the persecution, on November 14, we went to the campus of Spelman College in downtown Atlanta and circulated a petition for the rescue of Xuefei.

Chatting and laughing, students walked by our display boards. After they listened to us tell them about the ongoing persecution of the innocent Falun Gong practitioners in China, they became serious and concerned.

We related the story about a young Chinese university instructor, Ms. Zhao Xin who was arrested when she practiced Falun Gong one morning in a public park and later on was tortured to death. We also referred them to a Wall Street Journal report about how a nearly 60-year-old lady, Ms. Chen Zexiu was tortured to death. We told the story about how Ms. Wang Lixuan and her 8-month-old baby were beaten to death in a forced labor camp. Furthermore, we narrated the suffering of Ms. Zhou Xuefei, wife of Atlanta resident Mr. Lu Zhaohui. She was tortured and forced to receive brainwashing, and to do needlework. As a result, she nearly lost her eyesight. Each story shocked these students who live in a free country. Although China, which is on the other side of the Earth, seems far away, nonetheless, as an Atlanta resident's wife is currently imprisoned in a forced labor camp in China, people suddenly felt that the persecution is happening close by.

The students read resolutions issued by other universities requesting the release of Ms. Zhou Xuefei. They also read Resolution 624, issued by the Georgia Asian Council for the rescue of Ms. Zhou Xuefei. We told them: Ms. Zhou, who has relatives outside China appealing for her, still has not been released from the labor camp even though her term is up. What would be the situation of those practitioners who do not have relatives speaking for them outside China? The students said, "We can't imagine."

Most students in Spelman College are African Americans. They especially remember the civil rights leader, Dr. Martin L. King who had lived in Georgia and his nonviolent movement. They could not help expressing their respect for the persistence and endurance demonstrated by Falun Gong practitioners who follow the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" during the process of seeking their most fundamental right -- freedom of belief. One after another, they signed the petition letter to the Chinese President, Hu Jintao.
