My Mother's Ordeal (Photo)

May 9, 2003

(Clearwisdom.net) Zhen Xiangjun is my mother's name. She is 63 years old. Born in a village, she studied diligently and was admitted to the Shanghai Maritime University. Because of years of diligent study and a hard life, my mother was plagued by several diseases, and had to go to the hospital often. I vividly remember that she had lived a hard life. She didn't just have only the hardships in life but was also suffering from illnesses.

My mother suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, but modern medicine had no cure for her condition. I was extremely worried about her but could do nothing to help. With her strong willpower and spiritual strength, my mother participated in various qigong and martial arts to better her health. For over 30 years, rain or shine, she had practiced the various exercises, but her illnesses didn't show improvement.

In 1993, she went to a park to do exercises as usual. A practitioner said to her, "Why don't you try Falun Gong, it can help you keep fit and cure illnesses." My mother gave it a try. Unexpectedly, once she started to practice Falun Gong, her illnesses disappeared, and her health became better and better. My mother believed that Falun Gong is a very good practice.

Even after Falun Gong was slandered and persecuted in China, my mother still kept practicing the exercises. Because she had such a steadfast belief in Falun Gong, she was detained for 60 days in September and December of 1999 on the charge of "disturbing public order." On June 26, 2000, she was again detained. My mother still did not give up her practice of Falun Gong.

In October 2002, my mother was detained in the Baoshan District Detention Center in Shanghai, and has been sentenced to three years of forced labor. As our family members are not allowed to visit her, I still do not know her current situation. From a kind-hearted police officer, I found out that she still persists in practicing the Falun Gong exercises, but she has been tortured and abused by police officers there.

I'm not a Falun Gong practitioner, but as a daughter, I'm so glad that my kind-hearted mother was able to find good health and a comfortable life in her later years because of practicing Falun Gong after years of hardships. But now, she is suffering in the labor camp for what had helped her so much. Moreover, I can do nothing about it; I'm extremely worried about her.

I can only say, "Mother, I miss you, I miss you so much..."
