Commentary on Current Issues

On June 4th, Central News Agency reported that a deputy minister of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources of China who went to Mianyang City for work inspection was diagnosed with SARS. This article indirectly confirmed an earlier report by Asia Times, which stated the Chinese government made up its own standard which allows it to count confirmed SARS patients [according to internationally agreed standards] as suspected cases, so the number of cases dropped dramatically. According to the report by the Central News Agency, this patient came from Beijing, the hardest-hit region in the world; he had fever and his lungs showed slight pneumonia symptoms. Four medical workers who treated him also had fever and body aches. According to the definition from the WHO, this deputy minister definitely should be counted as a confirmed SARS case.

Practitioners Exchange Insights

The relationship between eliminating attachments and saving people: several days ago, a fellow practitioner criticized me and pointed out some of my gaps; however, his language was acerbic and I felt very uncomfortable. While I was feeling upset, I suddenly saw all beings at one level of the universe in my body were being eliminated by Fa-rectification. It shocked me. Beings on different levels of the cosmos have different degenerated elements and different causes of degeneration. Each time we pass a test and eliminate an attachment, that is in fact the time when the beings in our system are hoping we can solve everything with benevolent solutions in order for them to be saved. If we don't pass the test well, the beings on this level will certainly be eliminated by Fa-rectification. Every time we eliminate attachments, I think it's a process to determine whether the beings on a certain level in our cosmic system will be saved or eliminated. Time does not wait for us!

Rescue U.S. Citizen Charles Li

World Journal June 10th report: on June 9th, Falun Gong practitioners distributed a summary of a "Personal Letter by Charles Li in Detention" during their protest activity in front of a Chinese consulate. The letter describes the inhuman treatment Charles Li suffered during the detention, including three days and three nights of interrogation; his hair was forcefully shaved; he was beaten and his hands were cuffed behind his back for 72 hours, and other atrocities. Charles Li held a hunger strike three times to protest the Chinese government's abuse of Falun Gong practitioners, including himself, and he tried to deliver this 96-page letter that he wrote during the detention. Although the ruling Party removed eight pages, the document eventually surfaced after the U.S. consulate strongly protested.

Truths About the Persecution

Following government order No. 5.46, government officials from Hengshui City, Hebei Province claimed they would "try our best to reform almost all Falun Gong practitioners." They began another round of persecution and sorted the practitioners into three categories, 1. Unreformed, 2. Not completely reformed (those who didn't explicitly state that they give up Dafa practice); 3. Completely reformed. For the third category, the former practitioners still have to act according to the "Seven Polices" issued by the central government, meaning they not only have to give up Dafa practice, they also have to condemn Dafa and work hard to reform other practitioners, to be counted as "completely reformed."

Dafa practitioner Tong Ruiqing, an employee from Handan City Social Security Center in Hebei Province went to Beijing to appeal and was detained at a hotel by persons from his work unit. On August 1, 2001, officers from Congtai District Police Department ransacked his home and sent him to the No. 1 Detention Center in Handan City.

In June 2002, his family paid 3,000 Yuan to bail him out. Officials from his work unit lowered his monthly salary from 1,500 Yuan to 500 Yuan for six months. On March 2, 2003, over a dozen enforcers from Congtai District Police Department abducted Tong Ruiqing and sent him to the No. 1 Detention Center in Handan City, where he is detained until now.
