1) A man named Zhang Xueping has been running a Forced Brainwashing Center inside Changli County Security Company in Changli County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. He has recruited over 30 local people to force practitioners to renounce their belief in Falun Gong through brainwashing and torture. A practitioner named Ms. Lang Shuying has been illegally detained in this center for several years and is still incarcerated today. Another practitioner, Mr. Zhang Weijin, was sentenced to four years in a labor camp. Because he remained a determined practitioner, the camp refused to release him when his term expired and transferred him directly to Zhang Xueping's brainwashing center, where he was subjected to more than a year of torture, including sleep deprivation and forced brainwashing. At the beginning of 2004, the Changli County Police abducted over ten practitioners who were distributing materials containing important facts about Falun Gong and transferred them to the brainwashing center. Torturers then forced them to sit on an iron bench for long periods of time and deliberately humiliated them by denying them the use of a bathroom until after they had already soiled their pants. When a practitioner went on a hunger strike as a non-violent means to protest the persecution and his life was in danger, the tormentors ignored his plight. Moreover, they tortured him with punitive forced-feeding.
2) Chen Huiliang is the Chairman of the "610 Office" in Fengrun District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. He has been a key accomplice of Jiang Zemin since Jiang started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999. Chen has sentenced practitioners to serve time in prisons and forced labor camps, illegally detained them, subjected them to forced brainwashing, extorted obscenely large amounts of money from them in the name of fines, fired them from their jobs, illegally ransacked their homes, and caused them to leave their homes and go into hiding to avoid further persecution. He has persecuted over 1,000 practitioners. The following are but a very few of Chen Huiliang's heinous crimes:
Ms. Zhang Mengying is a retired schoolteacher in her sixties from Chezhoushan Middle School in the Fengrun District of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. She had even taught Chen Xueliang when he attended Chezhoushan Middle School. After returning from her trip to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong, Ms. Zhang was abducted and thrown into the Fengrun District Detention Center. She was then transferred to Xiaobali Forced Brainwashing Center in the Fengrun District, where she was repeatedly subjected to brutal beatings and verbal abuse. Several bones in Ms. Zhang's back were fractured during a beating, and she became bedridden for more than a month. During that time she had to rely completely on other people to care for her. After Ms. Zhang was finally released, she was abducted again and transferred to another brainwashing class inside Tangshan Textile College. There she suffered from a new round of torture, some of which included long periods of sleep deprivation and being forced to stand absolutely still for a long period of time. After Ms. Zhang was released again, Chen Huiliang barged into his former teacher's home to harass and threaten her further. Ms. Zhang was then abducted for the third time and transferred to the Fengrun District for further persecution. Because she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong, she was transferred to Tangshan's First Detention Center. Her current condition is unknown.
Mr. Sun Jianzhong is another victim of Chen Xueliang. Mr. Sun is a resident in the Xianghe Section of the Fengrun District. He used to be the team leader of a group of bus drivers in the Fengrun District's Bus System. Because Mr. Sun refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, he was repeatedly abducted and beaten. Roughly 20,000 yuan was extorted from him, and he was forced to renounce Falun Gong in writing. He was also repeatedly thrown into a brainwashing class and a detention center for persecution. Mr. Sun suffered the most horrific torture in December 2001 after he was abducted and thrown into the Fengrun District Detention Centre by Mr. Qi Lianfu, the Department Head of the Fengrun District Public Security Bureau in Gaolipu Township in the Fengrun District, and Mr. Zeng Xianghai and some other police officers. He was beaten with clubs, shocked with electric batons, chained in hand and foot shackles for long periods of time, and electric-shocked and his fingers were burned until they were charred. During the illegal detention, Mr. Sun went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. In response to Mr. Sun's protest, the torturers forced-fed him with human urine to further torment and humiliate him. They continued daily torture sessions until Mr. Sun was at the brink of death. Even after Mr. Sun was released, the Fengrun District Public Security Bureau had him under police surveillance around the clock. After Mr. Sun had been released for only 13 days, they abducted him again and threw him into Tangshan City's First Detention Center. Then they illegally sentenced him to seven years in Hebei Province's First Prison under the 4th Brigade.
3) My name is Han Xiaoming. I am a 43-year-old Falun Gong practitioner in Jilin Province. I used to work at the Erlu Base of the Zuojia Wild Game Research Institute in Jilin Province. At the end of 2001, I went to Beijing with several fellow practitioners to appeal to the Chinese government to end the persecution against Falun Gong. Unfortunately, I was abducted in Beijing and escorted back to my hometown. The police released me after they extorted 1,300 yuan from me. My husband threatened to divorce me if I didn't give up my belief in Falun Gong, but I refused to comply with his demand or the request for a divorce. In March 2003, several police officers in civilian clothes broke into and ransacked my home, abducted me and detained me for seven days. After I returned to work, my boss Mr. Li Sheng withheld one month's salary and two thirds of my bonus for an indefinite period of time. When it was time to issue me my 13 months' salary, Li Sheng suspended the payment again. He later transferred me to another department. After I left, he had a car crash and had to give the victim nearly 1,000 yuan in compensation. Actually, it was a man named Wang Xiaodong that ordered Li Sheng to transfer me. Wang is now mentally deranged. Perhaps he has met with karmic retribution for his wrongdoings.
Editors' Note: In both Western and Chinese culture, the principle of Karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." The universe will reward actions that are in harmony with this principle, while actions such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will invite due retribution. Articles such as this are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely "following orders," the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their courses of wrongdoing may they escape karmic retribution.
