World Journal reported on April 11, that around noon on April 10, a great number of Falun Gong practitioners gathered downtown in Foley Square to prepare for their parade. Most of the participants were Chinese, but there were also many westerners. Some were families that included the old and the young, some were friends coming together. Prior to the parade, practitioners practiced Falun Gong exercises in the square.

According to the report, around 12:30, the drums and gongs sounded. In addition to the dragon dance and lion dance, many female practitioners dressed like heavenly girls gracefully danced. After the rehearsal, the parade set off. Apart from the drum procession, there were also specially decorated floats, on which stood fairies and other characters. On another float, practitioners were dressed to portray those who were beaten and tortured in China.

The report said that according to the parade sponsor, in addition to New York Falun Gong practitioners, practitioners from other countries and areas including Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom also participated in the parade.

The report also noted that it was a warm day on April 10, and there were lots of visitors and tourists in Chinatown.
