Central News Agency Report: Falun Gong Practitioners Hold Anti-Torture Exhibition and Call Upon Canada to Continue Their Support

July 1, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 24, 2004,the Central News Agency reported that June 26 was the United Nations International Day to Support Torture Victims. To support Falun Gong practitioners being tortured in China, Ottawa Falun Gong practitioners held an anti-torture exhibition on the Square of Human Rights Monument on June 24 and 25. Falun Gong practitioners exhibited torture methods used by police in China jails and labor camps and called on Canadian Government to continue their support and to the Chinese Government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners immediately.

The Square of the Human Rights Monument at Ottawa suddenly was transformed into a terrible scene this morning. A wounded female Falun Gong practitioner was confined in a small metal cage that would be an appropriate size for a dog. She could not stand and both of her hands were tied to the cage. Besides the cage, there was a metal chair specially designed for torture. Nails protruded from the headrest and there were two sharp forks in the front. The seat was made from a triangular shaped metal bar. Handcuffs and shackles were beside and the entire metal chair was stained with blood.

In the center of the square, there was a large iron cage. A female practitioner who was portraying someone who had been tortured to the point of death was hung inside the cage. A policeman was shown in the act of using a sharp bamboo stick to push under another female practitioner's fingers while interrogating her. Her fingers were bleeding and the policeman grasped her hair. In another scene, a person portrayed a Chinese policeman using a red hot iron to burn a female practitioner's leg. Another wounded female practitioner was locked in a wooden cage alongside. A policeman standing beside her portrayed how practitioners are whipped.

In China more than 100 torture methods have been documented as being used in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The reenactment on the square was much milder than the true situation. Falun Gong spokesperson Zhou Luxi said, "These torture methods shown here were physically experienced by practitioners who were tortured in China and later rescued and now living overseas. News about torture cannot spread in China because the Chinese regime calls it state secrets."

Local citizens who witnessed the exhibition were shocked about the depth of the persecution. They signed banners to support Falun Gong practitioners and called upon the Canadian government to demand China stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
