World Journal Reported Falun Gong's March from Chinatown to Union Square (in San Francisco) to Protest CCP Exporting State-Sponsored Terrorism

July 14, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) World Journal reported in Chinese on July 12 that the "Global Coalition Against Chinese Ruling Party's Export of State-Run Terrorism" staged a parade with the theme of, "Stop Jiang Group's export of state-run terrorism". They marched from the Chinatown's Garden Corner park to the Union Square in San Francisco and attracted many people's attention along the route.

On June 28, during Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong's state visit to South Africa, nine Falun Gong practitioners from Australia went to South Africa to join a peaceful protest. They also planned to have legal papers served against the visiting Chinese officials for human rights violation. They were attacked by a gunman near Johannesburg, South Africa. One practitioner was severely injured while their belongings were intact. Therefore, Falun Gong practitioners believed that this is a "political shooting".

This case drew attention from many organizations concerned about human rights in China. On July 3, in Washington DC, a grand "Global Coalition against CCP Export of State-Sponsored Terrorism" was established and staged parades in different places to call on the world to pay attention to this issue. One of the coalition initiators Ms. Kelley Huang said that in order to suppress the development of human rights, Jiang's group has exported terrorism to other countries and intensified it. This march on July 11 was to protest the Chinese ruling party's extension of its state-run terrorism and stop it. She also condemned any terrorist actions that violate human rights.

Spokesperson for the organization, Ms. Sherry Zhang, pointed out that the South Africa shooting incident is not an isolated one. Jiang group's threat to Falun Gong practitioners has long been extended from inside China to outside China. From San Francisco and Chicago to South Africa and Canada, quite a number of violent attacks have taken place in major cities in the world. She said that most of these violent incidents were linked to the local Chinese Embassies or Consulates, which instigated hate and initiated violence. In response to this kind of incidence, two U.S. Congress Members Lynn Woolsey and Ros Lehtinen initiated Resolution 304, requesting the U.S. government to pay attention to the acts of terrorist due to hate as well as the pressure exerted by the Chinese Consulates to the American officials. Ms. Sherry Zhang wished that through this parade human rights could be protected and would not be threatened. She said that this was extremely important for Chinese people.

More than 100 people joined the march. From Chinatown's Garden Corner park to Union Square, the march drew attention and gained support from people including those from mainstream society. After they reached Union Square, members from different organizations delivered speeches. They called upon the CCP to stop the state-sponsored terrorism and requested all countries in the world to pay attention to this issue. Apart from the sponsoring organization, attendees also included "UC Berkeley China Forum", "Chinese Democracy Education Foundation", "Global Coalition to Bring Jiang to Justice", "Press Freedom and China's Human Rights League", and "Silicon Valley Association to Advance Democracy".
