Voice of America Reports on the Shooting of Falun Gong Practitioners in South Africa

(Clearwisdom.net) According to a Voice of America report on June 30, five Australian Falun Gong practitioners who went to South Africa to protest visiting Chinese leaders Zeng Qinghong and Bo Xilai for their active participation in the persecution of Falun Gong were victims of a drive-by shooting on a highway in the vicinity of Johannesburg, South Africa. Falun Gong claimed that the Chinese government was behind the shooting incident.

The attackers sped away after shooting and injuring a practitioner. AFP quoted the South Africa police as saying, "A Chinese man was shot and injured on Monday afternoon shortly after arriving in Johannesburg from Australia to protest against the South African visit of Chinese vice president Zeng Qinghong and Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai". Falun Gong condemned these two Chinese officials for their participation in the suppression of Falun Gong and planned to file a lawsuit against them.

Regarding the Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong, the report said that practitioners expressed that Falun Gong is a practice to improve both physical and mental health. They pointed out that the persecution of Falun Gong is a violation of human rights and a violation of people's basic freedoms. According to Falun Gong practitioners, about 1,000 practitioners have been tortured to death by the Jiang regime.

Regarding the lawsuits filed outside China against Chinese officials who participated in the persecution of Falun Gong, the report said that the Jiang regime's suppression of Falun Gong has aroused intensive attention and condemnation. In recent years, Falun Gong practitioners have adopted using the legal system as a means to protest. Over the past few years, several Chinese high-ranking officials were served [legal papers] by Falun Gong practitioners during their visit to western countries.

The VOA report stated that the Australian Falun Gong practitioners who came to South Africa had planned to file a lawsuit against Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong. Apparently, that was also part of the effort of Falun Gong practitioners' protest against the Jiang regime.
