Cases of Persecution of Dafa Practitioners at the Masanjia Labor Camp

Aug. 23, 2004

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Wang Yan, from the Xigang District in Dalian City is around 37 years old and has a college degree. She was illegally imprisoned in the forced labor camp, which is officially titled the Masanjia Ideology Education School's No. 1 Division, No. 6 Subdivision, for about two years where she was subjected to torture. She was imprisoned for an extended period in a small cell, a triangular room created specially for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. Because she went on a hunger strike to protest the constant propaganda that was broadcast to defame Falun Dafa and incite hatred among the labor camp detainees, she was shackled to a bench in this triangular room. She was locked and force-fed daily as a form of torture rather than to save her life. Ms. Wang became severely emaciated as a result. In a vicious campaign of suppression in December 2002, directed against Dafa practitioners which officials called the "Spring Thunder Action", Wang Yan was forced to squat on the ground for extended periods. The guards used all kinds of torture methods to force her to renounce her belief in Falun Dafa. Later, Wang Yan refused to comply with the authorities persecution against her and retracted any coerced statements that she made under torture that were contrary to the principles of Falun Dafa. She was then strictly controlled by the authorities and subjected to further torture. Later Ms. Wang was transferred to a mental hospital where she was slated for further persecution. We have since learned from her younger sister that Wang Yan was tortured to death.

Ms. Wang Wenjun, in her 40s, was an employee of the Knitting Plant in Jinzhou City. She was divorced and had one daughter. Wang Wenjun and her younger sister Wang Wenjuan were both imprisoned in the notorious Masanjia Labor Camp. Ms. Wang was imprisoned in the No.1 Division No.3 Subdivision of the labor camp. She had been sentenced to three years of forced labor for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. After being sent to the Masanjia Labor Camp in February 2001, Ms. Wang was subjected to a constant regimen of torture. At first the guards interrogated her every day trying to brainwash her while only allowing her to sleep for two to three hours. Later the guards forced her to do heavy manual labor where she came in contact with toxic materials on a regular basis. The heavy workload greatly damaged her health. In addition, the lack of proper nutrition and the constant exposure to a toxic work environment made her look very pale. She suffered from a uterine hemorrhage. Even so, she was still forced to participate in all activities and labor, including the heavy labor of harvesting corn. By December 2002, Ms. Wang's health had deteriorated further. She could not sit still and could not sleep well at night. The guards injected her with an unknown substance against her will and tried to force her to borrow money to pay for the medical costs. Even in her condition they sent her to a specially designated building where she was forced to attend brainwashing sessions during the vicious "Spring Thunder Action" in December. Wang Wenjun firmly continued her belief in Falun Dafa and refused to renounce it. She was tortured repeatedly until she was close to death. On December 28, 2001, the Masanjia Hospital administration declared that Ms. Wang was beyond rescue. Then the labor camp personnel released her in a hurry to avoid responsibility for her impending death. Wang Wenjun died at home on July 22, 2003.

Ms. Zhao Caihua, an accountant from Huludao City's Longgang District Feng Plant, was 30 years old and had a junior college degree. She was abducted while going shopping in April 2002 and was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Because she didn't cooperate with various kinds of brutal treatment and refused to participate in manual labor, the guards hung her up by handcuffs with only her toes touching the ground for two days and one night. She was also forced to sit in the lotus position for more than ten hours, causing her to vomit blood. Because she wrote a letter to the camp administrator in support of Dafa, Ms. Zhao was put into a small cell. It was already very cold in November and she did not have warm clothes. When Ms. Zhao came back from the small cell she was shivering all over and her legs were swollen. She still shivered even several days later. In late 2002 and early 2003, the enforcers sent Ms. Zhao twice to the building designated for persecuting Dafa practitioners, for further torture and brainwashing. By the end of April 2003 she started a hunger strike in protest. After one month, Ms. Zhao could no longer take in food and vomited everything she ate. She was given injections when she was in need of food. She was severely emaciated and could no longer walk by herself.

Zhao Caihan was finally sent back home. It was heard that she later died as a result of the torture she suffered under the persecution.
