Taiwan: Story of a Bookmark (Photos)

Aug. 24, 2004 |   By Jin Feng from Taiwan

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a taxi driver in Taiwan. I cherish everyone that I encounter. I introduce Falun Dafa to each person who takes a ride in my taxi. My passengers are often older persons. They are all very happy to listen to me telling the facts about Falun Gong. When I tell them to remember that "Falun Dafa is great" and to be a good person who is truthful, kind and tolerant, many seniors who are illiterate, or who don't have good eyesight, or if their memory is failing, ask me to write these words down for them so that they would not forget them. Because the words printed on bookmarks made by practitioners to introduce Falun Gong are often too small for these elderly people to read, I would take a piece of notepaper and write down these words for them. However, I felt very uncomfortable about it because the piece of notepaper is not easy to keep. I therefore shared this issue with another practitioner at our practice site. She said that she would design bookmarks suitable for elderly people. I told her it would be best to not use any pictures but just large characters in bright colors.

Shortly after, I got the bookmarks (see photos below). Many fellow practitioners think the design is very good. We feel that the design is pure and peaceful and we can even feel the light shining from it. The practitioner who designed the bookmark is very diligent in her cultivation and we feel that she is very pure. I started carrying the bookmarks in my taxi. Almost all the passengers eagerly ask for the bookmarks. They treasure the bookmarks very much and carefully put it in their pocket or purse as if they are trying to remember these words by heart forever and will keep the bookmark forever. Seeing how the small bookmark plays such a good role in introducing Dafa to people, my heart is deeply moved.

Taxi drivers in Taiwan voluntarily form brigades at different places to direct traffic so as to serve society and maintain traffic safety. People from all circles praise them for this. I'm also a member of the voluntary brigade. Each week, I would volunteer some time to direct traffic on the busy streets. On the evening of August 20, 2004, our local brigade members had a dinner party together. About 100 colleagues and local leaders, including representatives of public groups and people from industry and commerce, attended. At the dinner party, I introduced Falun Gong and explained the facts about the persecution to people, and handed out bookmarks. People were very pleased to receive the bookmarks. They asked me to go up to the podium. I sang the song, "Coming for You" and won warm applause.

I remember that a fellow practitioner once told a story: A Chinese person from the Mainland visited Taiwan and saw many Falun Dafa banners hanging in different places and then he talked about his previous bad notions about Falun Gong. When he went to the U.S. for the first time, he saw a huge poster that read, "Falun Dafa is great!" Suddenly, his negative thoughts were cleared away and he felt good about Falun Gong. I came to understand that as long as practitioners have a compassionate heart to save sentient beings, just one sentence, one article, one video CD, one poster and even one small bookmark would be very effective.

Bookmark designed by a fellow practitioner. The left-hand side reads, "Falun Dafa is great," the right-hand side reads, "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance."
