Two Anti-Torture Exhibitions Mark the Beginning of 2005

On January 2, 2005, the Cultural Center of Jiayi City hosted an "Anti-Torture Exhibition" that exposed the Jiang group's brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China. This was the second Anti-Torture Exhibition, following the one in Puzi City's Chung Cheng Park on January 1. Legislative Council member Huang Minhui, Representative of the Mayor of Jiayi City and Director Wu Jiaxing, Council member Cai Tongrong's Representative, Director Cai Wenxu and many reporters visited the exhibition. After the visit, they condemned the Jiang group's inhuman atrocities and called on the people of the world to work together to end the persecution and torture.

Clarifying the truth

Clarifying the truth

People come to learn the truth

Falun Dafa practitioners from the Jiayi area arrived at the site very early to set up the exhibition boards and prepare the stage for the torture reenactment. Practitioners from both the mountain areas and the seaside also came to help. Some sent forth righteous thoughts, while some worked on the makeup for the torture reenactment. The practitioners demonstrated the following tortures: burning with a hot iron rod, handcuffing, tying with ropes, the "Tiger Bench," and piercing the fingernails with bamboo sticks. A total of eleven torture methods used in China's jails and forced labor camps were demonstrated. The soul stirring reenactment touched many people's heart and they saw the evil nature of Jiang's Communist regime.

The activity was scheduled to start at one o'clock in the afternoon, but a flood of visitors arrived earlier. At the entrance, a blue banner reading, "This Is Happening in China Now..." greeted them. Entering the hall, one would first see truth clarification pictures and the practitioners distributing flyers. There was also an exercise demonstration and information desk at the entrance.

Professors, Council Member, and Directors Condemn the Persecution

At two o'clock in the afternoon, a press conference began. Three newspapers and TV stations sent reporters to the event. Professor Ai Changrui from National Chung Cheng University's Business Administration Department gave the first speech. He said the purpose of the Anti-Torture Exhibition was to let people learn the truth about the Jiang group's violation of human rights and to call for support from the international community. Professor Ai also pointed out that Jiang's followers have tortured Falun Gong practitioners with over one hundred torture methods, resulting in over 1,200 confirmed death cases. Among these, over half of the deaths were women practitioners. The exhibition only displayed the tip of the iceberg, he said. Professor Ai urged the audience to learn the truth and be aware of the persecution.

Director Cai Wenxu said he had planned a vacation on this date but he believed this event was more meaningful so he cancelled his vacation plans. He said the Anti-Torture exhibition exposed the dark side of China's Communist Party that many people had not known before. He said it was ridiculous that such a good exercise practice was being slandered with so many untruthful accusations. He said that if the government could see its own mistakes it would clear the name of Falun Gong immediately. He emphasized that China's Communist Party is not just torturing people, but is also killing people and he would stand on the side of Falun Gong to find more international support to help Falun Gong be treated fairly in China.

Director Wu Jiaxing said the Chinese Communist Party was good at lying. The facts of the persecution were well concealed in China by its controlled media. He hoped that fair media coverage of the persecution would raise awareness around the world and let the truth come out.

Professor Ai invited the media representatives at the site to sign their names on a postcard addressed to the president, to show their concern for those being persecuted.

After the press conference, Councilwoman Huang Minhui sighed after viewing the pictures and torture reenactment. She said she could not understand why and how China's Communist Party could do such things to the kind Falun Gong practitioners. She said it represented a total ignorance of human rights and life. She urged the public to appeal together for an end to the persecution.

Conscience is in people's hearts

It was the New Year holiday, so many people came to visit the exhibition and some brought their children too. When they saw the bloody torture reenactments, they immediately condemned the persecution as inhuman. Some said that they had known of some of the Communist Party's cruel tortures. Other people said they were surprised to see it and felt that the torturers had lost their last bit of compassion and human conscience. Some people took photos and wanted to show their relatives, to let them know about the Communist Party's gangster style of ruling and its view that people's lives are not valuable. Some people expressed their respect to Falun Gong practitioners for safeguarding their belief and the truth, and praised the power of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance."

Because the visitors kept coming, the exhibition time was extended to let more people learn the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong and the tortures happening in Mainland China. Falun Gong practitioners hope more people of justice and conscience will step forward to condemn the Jiang group's atrocities and work together to end the brutal persecution.
