The Brutal Torture I was Subjected to in the "Division 13" Prison in Beijing

Jan. 20, 2005 |   By a practitioner in Hengyang City, Hunan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) In April 2000, I went to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Dafa. At about 9 a.m. on April 25, police snatched my banner, struck me to the ground, threw me in a police van, and took me to the Tiananmen Police Station. Because I refused to tell them my name and address, I was transferred to the "Division 13" Prison in Beijing that afternoon.

Although it was April, the evening in Beijing was quite cold, especially for those of us who came from the south. Before we were thrown in the cells, the prison guard body-searched us and took away all our clothes for "safekeeping" except for one layer of clothing and underwear. About a dozen people were detained in the same cell as me. There was hardly anything in the cell, and no bedding on the wooden beds. We had missed two meals, so that night we were really cold and hungry. The next morning, a person came to take orders for us to buy bed quilts. Since some people did not have money with them, we bought several so that every two persons could share one quilt. On the following day, however, we were re-assigned to be locked up among the jailed felons. We were not allowed to take the quilts we bought with us. Furthermore, for those who refused to give their names, they were reassigned after each interrogation. This lasted several days. In this way, the little money that we had with us was all used up.

The prison guard summoned all the practitioners from the cells and lined us up to be force-fed, despite the fact that we had just eaten. We refused to cooperate with the force-feeding. The person who administered the force-feeding said, "Then you (referring to Dafa practitioners) can drink it all up yourselves, why go through the trouble of being forced-fed?" When we told him that none of us were on hunger strike, he was annoyed and asked the guard, "They are not on hunger strike, why are we force-feeding them?" The prison guard was exasperated: "Do you listen to my order or theirs?" Obviously, the force-feeding was used for torturing practitioners. It hurts more if one has eaten before the force-feeding. Not only was it more uncomfortable during the insertion of the tube, but when the stuff was forced down, it was even more unbearable. It was excruciating when the stomach was overfilled. After the stomach was fully distended, the stuff overflowed through the mouth and nostrils, onto the face and all over the place.

They sent all practitioners who did not report their names in a bus to a mental hospital for electric shocks. The police sat on the seats in the bus while the practitioners sat on the floor. People from outside could not see that there were practitioners on the bus, nor could the practitioners see what was outside. All the windows were shut, as the police were afraid that the practitioners would call out "Falun Dafa is good" to the people passing by. After arriving at the hospital, we were taken to some rooms already prepared for us on the second floor of a building. I was taken to the lobby area, which had 6 beds in it. We were tied up spread-eagle onto the beds by several people wearing patient gowns they had called in. After they finished tying the practitioners to all the 6 beds, they began the torture, starting with me. They connected the instrument to the power supply, and inserted three wired needles into my body.

The first needle was inserted in my Renzhong acupuncture point, the second needle into the Yongquan acupuncture point in the sole of my right foot, and the third needle was inserted to a place at the back of my right hand between the thumb and the index finger (close to the Hukou acupuncture point.) After the needles were inserted, they started the interrogation: who we were and where we came from. If we refused to answer, they would apply the electricity. When the electricity was applied, cramping would start from my right foot and spread to the rest of the body, causing my whole body to ache and swell, a dreadful sensation that is difficult to describe. At that moment, I had only one thought in my mind: this ordinary people's stuff will not work on me, as I am a Dafa disciple, not an everyday person. (Ordinarily, I would have asked Teacher for help when encountering tribulations. But the day before the torture, we shared our understandings, as we knew we were going to be tortured. Thinking that Teacher had already suffered too much for us and had many other things to take care of, we decided we would bear it all ourselves regardless of how brutal it might be. Actually, this was the result of not having studied the Fa well.) When the electricity stopped, I felt as if someone was striking at the sole of my feet with a large electric baton. I seemed to hear a loud banging sound with each strike. The painful impulses went straight to the brain, and I almost collapsed. Each person felt a different type of pain, as the points of needle insertion were all different. Some felt that their entire sensory system went haywire, and the torture was unbearable. The police determined how long the electric shock would go on. When they saw that you could not bear it, they would stop and ask you, "What is your name, and where do you live?" I replied, "Teacher told me to be considerate of others. If I tell you where I live, according to your policy, it will then affect a large number of people, the local government, my workplace, colleagues etc. I do not want to hurt other people, and I have done nothing wrong. So I will not tell you anything." They immediately shocked me again. I don't know how long they continued like that. Every time they stopped and asked, I had the same reply. They gave up after realizing that their efforts were futile. The practitioners who were tortured after me also said nothing, even after being shocked multiple times. When we were subjected to the electric shock, the police intentionally had some older practitioners watching the whole process to torment them. After all six of us were shocked, a young policeman came with a notebook to resume the interrogation. I still had the same reply. The policeman said in tears: "I really respect you. Under such circumstances, you still put others first." Then he left.

Liu Qi, the Party Secretary of Beijing, is one of the main perpetrators of the persecution. I hope that he will be brought to justice soon.
