1. "Strictly Monitored Team" -- Organized to Try to Force Practitioners to Give Up their Beliefs

Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp persecutes Falun Gong practitioners brutally. The "Strictly Monitored Team" was created to coerce practitioners into denouncing their beliefs through torture.

In a "Strictly Monitored Team" the guards collude with prisoners to persecute practitioners. The guards order the prisoners to beat up practitioners. These criminals are told that as long as injuries are not visible, they can beat practitioners in any way they want, and the guards even teach them tricks to accomplish this. The guards also give the criminals torture tools.

Torture methods used against practitioners include sleep deprivation, being forced to sit upright in the same position for prolonged periods of time, being tied to a "stretch bed," being handcuffed and then hung up, having their private areas groped, having pressure applied to the eyes, being poked by needles, being beaten, and others vicious methods.

In the "Strictly Monitored Team," three people are assigned per cell, two criminal inmates and one Falun Gong practitioner. The criminal inmates are usually repeat offenders. Some of these prisoners have been in prison 6 or 7 times. Since the practitioners are isolated, the criminal inmates can torment practitioners without worrying about having to bear the consequence of their acts. The criminals in the "Strictly Monitored Team" say to practitioner, "What's the big deal? So we beat you. Where is the eyewitness? You can sue, but there are two of us. It is two against one. Besides, the police are on our side. They say that internal injuries are okay, as long as there are no external injuries. So beating you is not a problem."

Falun Gong practitioners in the "Strictly Monitored Team" are subjected to sleep deprivation. They are forced to sit upright, their backs straight, hands on the knees and facing a wall for long periods of time. When they are not eating or using the bathroom, they are forced to sit like this at all times. The slightest movement results in the practitioner being beaten. Many practitioners have injuries on their feet as a result of this torture. On top of that, when criminals on watch-duty report a practitioner for any kind of infraction, the practitioner would be placed on a "stretch bed" or handcuffed and then hung up.

In the "stretch bed" torture, the guards and criminal inmates tie the practitioner to a bed frame with their arms and legs spread in four directions. The body is stretched until it cannot go any further. In this position, the muscles become extremely fatigued. A person on a "stretch bed" has to eat, excrete and sleep in that position. This position is maintained for a long time, and the agony is beyond description. Furthermore, some practitioners still have to endure further torment, including the criminals grabbing their private areas, applying pressure to their eyes, poking them with needles, etc.

Sometimes, the practitioner's hands are shackled to the horizontal bar of a bed frame. This position keeps the practitioner from standing up straight or sitting down, and forces the victim into a half-squat position that causes the muscles to become very tense and fatigued. All of the practitioners in the "Strictly Monitored Team" have suffered this torture.

The criminal inmates will forcefully take money and personal items from Falun Gong practitioners, with the guards' approval. By brutally attacking practitioners, the criminal inmates are able to curry favor with the guards.

2. Brutal Force-feeding

At Yinmahe Labor Camp, Falun Gong practitioners who have gone on hunger strikes to protest the persecution are force-fed. They are sent to the "Strictly Monitored Team" for inhuman persecution. The prison officials usually do not report hunger strikes to the higher-level authorities. Instead, they step up the persecution with the cooperation of other law enforcement agencies. During force-feeding, the police restrain the practitioner on a special metal chair and tie down the practitioner's hands and feet. Then, feeding tubes are inserted through the nose and into the stomach. They feed practitioners with gruel made of corn flour with lots of salt mixed in. The police deliberately torment practitioners who are being force-fed. This procedure more often than not causes bleeding in the nose and stomach, as well as nausea and vomiting. The practitioners are force-fed twice a day. Practitioners continuously endure such inhuman treatment by the criminals in the "Strictly Monitored Team."

3. Imprisonment Beyond the Scheduled Term

The labor camp extends the sentences from a few months to a year for steadfast practitioners. As long as the practitioner persists in practicing Falun Gong, the prison will not grant a release, but instead extend the practitioner's term. When the extended sentence is served, the practitioner is sent to another prison.

4. Denial of Family Visitation

Yinmahe Labor Camp set up its own rules for family visits. Falun Gong practitioners in the "Strictly Monitored Team" are stripped of family visitation rights. Any family member who is also a practitioner is not allowed to visit. Another rule is that any visiting family member must first publicly declare a negative stance on Falun Gong before being allowed to visit.

Mr. Li Wenjun's parents, from Jilin City, are close to seventy years old. A group of policemen beat Mr. Li during his arrest. Since then, he frequently feels dizzy, fatigued, and there are problems with his lungs and kidneys. The police department later sent Mr. Li to a forced labor camp without any legal process.

Li Wenjun appealed to the authorities and went on a hunger strike to protest his unlawful imprisonment. A supervisor in the labor camp, Zheng Hailing, sent Mr. Li to the "Strictly Monitored Team." Due to further persecution there, Li Wenjun developed severe health problems and was on the verge of death. The labor camp refused Mr. Li's attorney and family visitation rights. They also kept Mr. Li from being examined by a doctor. Secretly, the police put Li Wenjun in isolation for medical attention. They also took 500 yuan from his account for "nutritional supplements." All medical diagnosis records and testing results were concealed from Mr. Li's family. His parents, who were extremely concerned about their son's health, went to the labor camp 16 times to see him but were turned away each time.

The "Strictly Monitored Team" takes orders from supervisor Zheng Hailing. Other police officers involved include Li Yunbo from the Education Department, Yu Mingzhu from the Administration Department, Gao Hui from the Education Brigade, Zhang Xin from Brigade 5, Feng Wei from Brigade 4, Zhang Mingcai from Brigade 2 and Yang from the Education Department.

5. Profiteering by the Labor Camp

There is a small convenience store and a cafeteria at Yinmahe Labor Camp. The meals provided by the labor camp are very poor. Family members are not allowed to bring food or other personal items to the prisoners in the labor camp. However, they can deposit money into prisoners' accounts, which can be used to buy items from the labor camp's store and cafeteria. Of course, the prices are exorbitant.

The gouging that takes place in the cafeteria is even worse than the convenience store. The labor camp charges 30 yuan per person when family members visit. Jilin City practitioner Yu Xuezhong's relative had to spend 1,200 yuan in a month when visiting him, and most of the money was spent on food.

6. Deprivation of Fundamental Rights

The Yinmahe Labor Camp fully utilizes isolation as a persecution tool. There is no newspaper, and rarely is anyone allowed to watch television or the news. The labor camp also implemented a close monitoring system. Every Falun Gong practitioner is assigned and watched by at least one common criminal. Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to talk to each other. Even when they have to go to the restroom, they are prevented from seeing or talking to each other. Each cell takes turns using the restroom. Everyone has to work each day, from morning to night. Those who are assigned to work outside generally work on a farm. Those working inside process sunflower seeds. The labor camp isolates Falun Gong practitioners and tries to break them down one by one.

The prisoners at Yinmahe Labor Camp mainly eat steamed buns made of corn flour for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is usually wheat and vegetable soup. There is very little vegetable, maybe just a little potato, cabbage, radish, winter melon or eggplant.

During the National Day celebration, the labor camp decided to slaughter seven pigs to improve the meals. However all the good meat was divided up between the guards. During the course of the entire holiday, each prisoner was only given a little bit of fat and skin.

The most violent prisoners are given special privileges, including the monitoring of Falun Gong practitioners. They can rob and extort money from practitioners at will. They do not allow Falun Gong practitioners to speak, but can verbally or physically abuse the practitioners at will.
