A Death Due to Persecution: What I Learned at Beijing's Dongcheng Detention Center

Jan. 27, 2005 |   By a Falun Dafa Practitioner from Mainland China

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 10, 2001, I went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Dafa. As a result, I was arrested and sent to the Dongcheng District Detention Center in Beijing. Many Dafa practitioners have been brutally tortured there. On August 16, a couple of other practitioners and I were transferred to the Detention Center of the Beijing Police Department. On November 23, we were transferred back to the Dongcheng District Detention Center, which was under very strict monitoring at the time.

Once I was shifted to another cell, and found my cellmate to be an elderly lady (a criminal) from Xianghuangqi County in Inner Mongolia Province. She told me that she had been transferred from another cell. On October 21, 2001, a Falun Dafa practitioner was tortured to death. That practitioner had only been imprisoned for a few days and the elderly lady was imprisoned with her. The practitioner was on a hunger strike. Nobody knew her name or where she came from. On October 21, 2001, she was dragged out of the cell and force-fed by police at the detention center. She never came back.

Afterwards, the police at the detention center ordered us not to speak about it. At the same time, those who were imprisoned in that cell were sent to different cells. My cellmate said it was only then that she realized the practitioner had been tortured to death. She said the practitioner had no illnesses and was about 20 years old, with short hair down to her ears. She was medium height, slim, and dressed in a red suit, with a red overcoat. She looked like a girl from another province. Just before being dragged out of the cell, she said loudly, "I must go home."

Cheng Mei, a policewoman who was in charge of this cell, was directly involved in these crimes. Hanging on the gate of the Dongchen District Detention Center is a sign that reads, "Civilized Unit." Despite the sign, Falun Dafa practitioners are tortured behind this gate with electric needles. They drag practitioners out of their cells, force them onto the chair, cover their eyes, lock up their hands and feet, stab their legs with needles and then connect them to an electricity source. Electric batons, punches and kicks are simply part of daily life. It is said that Luo Gan, Secretary of the Political and Judicial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, had been to this detention center to check the "progress" of the persecution.
