Disparaging Words: Spontaneous Reaction to the Persecution of Falun Gong

Nov. 13, 2005 |   By Li Zhiqing

(Clearwisdom.net) I work as a teaching assistant at a university. In my department there are about ten teaching assistants, and the students regard me highly. I get along well with the professors in my department as well. All of them are easygoing and kind. They know that I practice Falun Gong and we sometimes talk about the Chinese Communist Regime's persecution of Falun Gong.

Among my colleagues there is a world-renowned medical industry professor with whom the local governments in quite a few cities in China have consulted on the policies of the local medical industry. Once in a graduation ceremony, he told me that he saw some Falun Gong practitioners handing out flyers when he was attending an academic conference at Cambridge University and that he did not quite understand Falun Gong. I explained to him how innocent Falun Gong practitioners were being persecuted. I told him that we would have adopted a better approach if there were any and that each of us was following our own heart. We use every reasonable approach we can think of to clarify the truth to people. We go to the places where there are many people and hand out flyers to let people know the truth about Falun Gong. Our hope is that through these means we may help stop the persecution and that it will end sooner. After learning the truth, the professor wondered why the government started the persecution. He said, "Why do they persecute those good people?" He could not help himself and said, "They (the persecutors) are so stupid!" Then immediately afterwards, he put his hand over his mouth, which indicated that he felt it was not the right place to say that, but nonetheless, that was his immediate reaction after he learned the truth of Falun Gong.

Another colleague, after she read through the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, said that she felt so sad upon learning of the tribulations and hardships the Chinese people have gone through, especially when she read the chapter, "On the Chinese Communist Party's History of Killing." She too couldn't help herself and said, "Stupid!" Then she looked at me as if she felt a bit ashamed about using such an indecent word.

Yes, it is a shameful thing for a decent scholar to describe an incident, a person, or a politician as stupid. Yet this is the comment that those experts and scholars usually make after they learn the truth of the persecution. As a matter of fact, this persecution is not only just "stupid." The other word that people utter after they've learned the truth is "evil." So far, the irrational and unreasonable persecution of kind Falun Gong practitioners has lasted more than six years. How heart wrenching it is! Those self-proclaimed patriots keep silent and show their "tolerance" towards the persecution. Where does their "patriotic" feeling towards their own people lie? Regarding those who continue to adhere to the CCP's policy of persecution against Falun Gong, even though they know the police are evil and stupid, I wonder if they know how pathetic and disgraceful they themselves are!
