At around 3 p.m., April 29, 29, Mr. Wu Hui-llin, a representative of Taiwan Falun Dafa Association delivers an appeal letter to the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei

On February 23, 2003, in a seashore park, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Ng Chye Huay and Ms. Cheng Lujin from Singapore practiced the exercises and introduced the unreasonable persecution of Falun Gong taking place in China to the public. In May 2004, they were charged by the Singapore police with "Assembly without a permit" and "Possessing and mailing out unauthorized VCDs" and other six charges. The charges stem from the public practice of Falun Gong and possessing and distributing materials that exposed the Chinese Communist regime's brutal suppression of Falun Gong in China.

Through the nearly one-year of trial proceedings, on April 27, 2005, the Singapore court issued an unfair verdict against the two practitioners, Ms. Ng and Ms. Cheng. They were fined 24,000 Singapore dollars and 20,000 dollars, respectively. The two ladies refused to accept the verdict and expressed that they will file an appeal. They were taken to the Changyi Woman's jail at 6 p.m. the same evening, where they may be detained up to 24 weeks.

Mr. Wu Hui-lin represented the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association to deliver an appeal letter. Assistant representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei came out to meet with Mr. Wu and said that he was aware that Falun Gong practitioners in Taiwan has always been peaceful and sensible and that he would convey Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners' request to the Singapore government at the most rapid speed. The appeal ended peacefully.

Dr. Wang Yuyi, spokesperson of Falun Dafa Association in Singapore said during a media interview that governments and people from many countries throughout the world expressed their sympathy toward the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. Unfortunately, Singapore becomes the only country besides China where Falun Gong practitioners are not only charged but also imprisoned. It is really regretful.

Mr. Chang Ching-hsi, president of Taiwan Falun Dafa Association said that in Singapore law, the article "Assembly without a permit" was historically used to deal with a political party for the purpose of preventing the party from gathering together and making troubles. Falun Gong practitioners practice exercises in public parks and clarify the truth about the persecution by passing out various materials to the public. They have been always peaceful and serene and never caused any troubles. It is just like that many people today practice Qigong or Taiji in public parks. Could one consider that as illegal assembly?

In Singapore, it is even legal to sell pornographic video CDs. Why couldn't one possess and distribute these Falun Gong truth-clarifying video CDs which did not violate any copyrights and contained no unhealthy contents (for instance, one of the VCDs was entitled, "False Fire" which expose the staged Tiananmen Square Self-immolation incident in 2001 won an honorary award at the 51st Columbia International Film Festival)?

In response to the court verdict, Taiwan Falun Dafa practitioners expressed that such a decision evidently indicated that Singapore authorities, under pressure from the Chinese communist regime, intervened with its judicial system and thus actually participated in the suppression of Falun Gong. Many countries throughout the world have realized the crimes committed by the Chinese communist regime in violating human rights. We hope the Singapore authorities will be able to see the truth for themselves, and that they immediately correct their mistakes and stop assisting the CCP to persecute Falun Gong.
