Appeal to Rescue Practitioner Ms. Liu Zhimei from Qinghua University

June 1, 2005

(Clearwisdom.net) Almost five years have passed since the last bit of information appeared on the Minghui website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom) about Ms. Liu Zhimei, a student at Qinghua University and a lively and cheerful lady, with whom I was acquainted.

I first met Liu Zhimei at a Falun Gong practice site at Qinghua University in 1997. She was then an undergraduate in the university's chemistry department. She always came very early to the site to practice the Falun Gong exercises. In the beginning I frequently saw her crying by herself as she walked down the road on her way to the practice site. When I asked her why, she always said that she did not do well enough and could not meet the xinxing standard Master requires. During those days there were many people at the practice site. She always earnestly and carefully helped the people who were new to learn the exercises well by correcting their postures. Ms. Liu Zhimei was a pure and kind lady.

After July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong started in China, Ms. Liu, like many other Qinghua University undergraduates, was suspended from school and sent home. They were pressured in various ways and required to write "guarantee statements" of repentance and statements "exposing their wrongdoings" and criticizing themselves. If not, they were sacked from the university. Because Ms. Liu withstood all this pressure from the school and from her family and upheld her freedom of thought and belief, she was not allowed to resume her course work at the university. To make a living she worked at a games arcade in her hometown.

In early 2000 she returned to Beijing with a few former Qinghua University undergraduates, who were also practitioners, and started to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to people. At that time, Daxing County officials in Beijing were detaining many practitioners. Ms. Liu and many other practitioners ignored the risk of their own possible detention and went to request the release of those innocent practitioners who were being detained.

In May 2001, Beijing City Police Department personnel arrested her in violation of the Chinese constitution. We later learned that she was illegally sentenced to one year of imprisonment. Practitioners arrested with her included Qinghua University undergraduates Meng Jun, Yao Yue and others.

There has been no further information about Ms. Liu Zhimei. I hope that kind-hearted people who know her situation can provide more details and help to rescue these outstanding students.
