SAN FRANCISCO - Falun Gong practitioners from the Bay Area gathered on July 16 to mark the sixth anniversary of the persecution against Falun Gong in China. About 200 practitioners held a demonstration in San Francisco's Chinatown. They called for attention to the brutal persecution suffered by practitioners in China, and vowed not to give up their peaceful resistance against the violence.
At 9 a.m. in Washington Park, practitioners practiced the slow and graceful meditation exercise as a group. At noon, about 200 held banners, walked along Stockton, the main street in Chinatown, and arrived at Portsmouth Square.
Since the early morning, practitioners had also been demonstrating the torture methods used against those in China, using live people as actors and achieving a visually shocking effect. They also showed pictures exposing the persecution against Falun Gong.
Four Bay Area practitioners talked about their personal experiences at the gathering. All four are professionals or executives in technology fields. They expressed their hope that more people could learn the true nature of the Chinese Communist Party and oppose the persecution. They stressed that faith in truthfulness, compassion and tolerance cannot be changed by violence; the peaceful resistance practiced over the past six years demonstrated this point.
Thirty-eight paintings were exhibited at the Chinatown Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. All were composed and completed by Falun Gong practitioners, some reflecting the beauty of Falun Gong cultivation, some praising the great deities and some showing practitioners' firm faith. A Japanese visitor wrote after the exhibit, "I can't hold back my tears. These artworks are truly amazing."
