China Times E-journal (Taiwan): Falun Gong Practitioners Become "Live Organ Bank"

Oct. 15, 2006

(Clearwisdom.net) China Times E-journal reported on October 13, 2006, that Chinese doctor Ms. Wang Wenyi urged the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime not to persecute Falun Gong practitioners this April on the lawn in front of the White House. Many people admire her courage.

Wang Wenyi is a former pathologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She has been investigating the CCP's crimes of organ harvesting from living people for a long period of time, and has traveled around the world to expose this horrendous and merciless act. Yesterday, Ms. Wang Wenyi attended a public hearing at the Legislative Yuan, accompanied by Legislative Yuan member Lai Ching-Te. She once again called on people to take seriously the CCP's problem of showing no regard for human rights. She said that such a regime can't be seen as a normal government, but as a tyrannical regime.

Wang Wenyi pointed out that the source of organs for transplant surgery in China mostly comes from death-row prisoners. Between 1993 to 1999, there were 18,500 organ transplants in China, and the average number of death-row prisoners executed each year was between 1,600 to 1,800; the proportion between the number of executed prisoners and organ transplant surgeries was balanced. However, from 1999 to 2005, death row executions have not obviously increased, but the number of organ transplants jumped to 60,000, which means that over 40,000 organs have come from unindentified sources.

Wang Wenyi said that this March, two witnesses, "Annie" and "Peter," came forward and exposed the CCP crimes of organ harvesting from living people. "Annie" testified that her husband, a doctor, had been forced to do organ harvesting from living people. He was unable to sleep at night and later fled Shenyang. According to the witnesses, several thousand Falun Gong practitioners were detained in Shenyang. With only a small amount of anesthesia, surgeons took turns taking their livers, hearts, kidneys, corneas and other vital organs.

She also said that since 2000, there has appeared a "China International Transplantation Network Assistance Center." Their website claimed to the world in five languages that anybody who requires an organ transplant can find a suitable organ within two to four weeks. The website also carried a list of prices for body parts. For example, the price of corneas is $30,000, a kidney is $98,000, and a heart is $160,000.

Wang Wenyi pointed out that procurement of organs for transplant in any other country takes at least two to three years. China can be so efficient only because there is a "living organ bank." There have been several tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners who have been illegally arrested, and the whereabouts of many of them are unknown. They may have become victims of live organ harvesting.
