Thoughts on Visiting a Million Dollar Mansion

Oct. 5, 2006

(Clearwisdom.net) A few days ago, I attended a schoolmate’s party celebrating his move into a million dollar house. I felt a little depressed, perhaps even inferior after seeing the splendid decorations in the grand mansion. I learned Falun Dafa in 1997 and after many years of struggle and hard work, I thought I had removed most of my human desire for fame and self-interest. Therefore, I felt ashamed to experience this everyday people’s feeling of envy and depression. I looked within afterward and discovered that I still long for the happiness that everyday people pursue.

I have been working for over ten years and although I have not had any major achievements, I have had many smaller successes. Even though I have been a practitioner for nearly 10 years, deep in my heart, I still hold attachments to society’s view of career successes and good fortune. I cultivate with my third eye closed; therefore, I cannot tell whether my cultivation is fruitful or not. I often feel that I don’t know if I have a bright future. Yet, there always seems plenty of a never-ending, winding road ahead. Actually, these are all very selfish thoughts.

In ordinary society, when people earn money, they exchange it for virtue. The more money they earn, the more virtue they dispose of. They are depending on practitioners to save them since in order for people to have a future, they must assimilate to the Fa. On the eve before the Fa rectifies the human world, an everyday person will face the unknown outcome of life or death. Isn’t that a pity? So why compare ourselves with everyday people! No matter how accomplished they are in the human world, they must face life and death, but practitioners can transform their virtue into gong instead of using it to obtain happiness in the human world.

We are here to rectify the Fa with our Teacher and what we undertake is the grandest task in the universe, so what we accomplish will be the mighty virtue of a god. Everyday people use virtue to achieve fame and personal gain. As a consequence, they possess less and less virtue and must face life and death. On the other hand, practitioners endure hardships in the human world in exchange for a god’s mighty virtue and the peace and joy of transcending reincarnation. Aren’t we the luckiest in the universe? Bestowed with such great fortune, how can we feel inferior?

We have to save all sentient beings that can possibly be saved with unconditional kindness and compassion, help Teacher to rectify the Fa and gain mighty virtue, and return to heaven where we came from. So set aside all selfish attachments and do well what we should do.
