Global Human Rights Efforts (GHURE)

Jakarta, 14 December 2006

His Excellency
Mr. Ashok Mirpuri
Ambassador of Republic of Singapore
Graha Surya Internusa Building Lt. 19
Jl. HR Rasuna Said Kav. X-O
Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan 12950

Dear Sir,

Please allow us to introduce ourselves; we are an NGO based in Jakarta which focuses on global human rights issues. We have been enlightened recently by few Falun Gong practitioners on the issue of 2 Falun Gong practitioners in Singapore, namely Mr. Erh Boon Tiong and Ms. Ng Chye Huay who were put on trial and convicted recently for the "July 20th Case".

We are writing to you due to several notable human rights violations related to this matter:

Trial conducted was said to be almost a "secret trial", where there was the lack of outside people or the public were limited from entering the trial.

There were restrictions on both the witnesses and evidence, which were dropped during the legal process as disqualified witness or evidence.

The defendants were not given enough time to speak for themselves or defend themselves in this matter

The verdict was based on possibility and speculation.

We understand that Singapore is a free and democratic country just like Indonesia. We do hope that you will speak to your government and inform them that we as an NGO in this neighboring country of Singapore, encourage your Supreme Court to re-process the case of Mr. Erh Boon Tiong and Ms. Ng Chye Huay, so that they will get what they deserve, which is a legal and fair trial. We do believe that everyone should have the rights to receive a proper and justice legal system.

December 10 is a Human Rights Day of the World. In this occasion, we also urge your government through you, to re-open the case based on good will and upholding justice and peace, as we believe that peace begins from justice, fairness and kindness towards each other as human beings.

"Human right is the right of every man…defending and protecting human rights is the duty of every man…" GHURE

Thank you for your kind attention. We do hope to have the opportunity to discuss with you or hear from you on the above matter.

Yours sincerely,

Henny Sundari

Chairman
