RFA: Human Rights Advocacy Personnel Urge the United Nations to Investigate Allegations of the CCP’s Organ Harvesting

July 16, 2006

(Clearwisdom.net) Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on July 12, 2006 that a joint statement was made regarding the investigative report done by a Canadian human rights group on the CCP regime’s forcible removal of detainees’ organs and then selling them for profit. The co-signers of the statement include former secretary of Hu Yaobang Lin Mu, human rights lawyer Zhang Jiankang, Gao Zhisheng and Yang Zaixin, professor Sun Guangwen from Shandong University and associate professor Jiao Guobiao from College of Journalism and Communications at Beijing University. Their joint statement says that this is the first investigative report on the CCP's illegal persecution of Falun Gong done outside of China since the persecution started in 1999. They are convinced by the objectiveness and justness of the results and urge the international community to investigate into related allegations.

Lin Mu expressed Wednesday to the RFA that they have been paying attention to the human rights problems in all aspects in China, and forcible removal of organs from detainees is a serious human rights problem, the international community should focus attention on it. He is planning to propose to the United Nations Human Rights Committee with some people who are concerning about the China’s human rights problems, urging them to investigate the related allegations. He also said that though he is 80 years old, if needed, he would like to assist and participate in the related investigative work.

Zhang Jiankang expressed that China’s human rights record has long been denounced by the outside, therefore, if the international strength intervenes, it will be more effective to discover the truth, and will be much more credible. He believed that the international community should set up an international court similar to the one for trying the Yugoslavian war criminals, and launch a special investigation into the related allegations as soon as possible. Related people in China should also make a public statement regarding the incidents. Zhang Jiankang said that he would like to participate in and cooperate with the investigation work. They would also continue keeping an eye on this matter, until the truth is found.

Former Canadian Member of Parliament Mr. David Kilgour and international human rights lawyer Mr. David Matas, invited by a Falun Gong-related organization, conducted a two-month investigation into allegations of the CCP regime’s removal and selling organs from detained Falun Gong practitioners. They released their investigative report last Thursday, pointing out that the government of China and its agencies in numerous parts of the country, in particular hospitals but also detention centers and 'people's courts', since 1999 have put to death a large but unknown number of Falun Gong prisoners of conscience. Their vital organs, including hearts, kidneys, livers and corneas, were virtually simultaneously seized involuntarily for sale at high prices.
