Blacktown City Council,
The Hon. Alexander Downer, MP
Minister For Foreign Affairs
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600

Dear Minister,

I have seen frequent recent reports of Chinese authorities arresting and mistreating Christian people and destroying their property in various locations in China

I have also seen numerous recent reports of Chinese authorities persecuting Falun Gong members. Its is my understanding that this is a peaceful organization

which promotes a healthy and friendly lifestyle.

It has also been disclosed by an independent report that there is reason to believe that Falun Gong members are being tortured and used for body parts in Chinese prisons. There have been calls for an independent investigation of these allegations.

Could you please inform me what actions the Australian Government has taken in response to these reported situations of breaches of human rights in China? In this regard it was reported by Tony Jones Lateline on 16/8/2006 that "the Australian Government has confirmed that officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have asked the Chinese Government to allow an independent investigation into claims of mass organ harvesting in China. What has been the outcome of this and what other actions have been taken and/or are planned to be taken?

It is my understanding that the Chinese Government has given an undertaking that certain human rights principles will be enforced as part of its commitment to the Olympic movement. How will this be enforced by Australia, the Olympic Bodies and the United Nations Organizations?

I look forward to your response to these matters which are of concern to many people in Australian society

Yours sincerely,

Allan Green
