Facts about the Persecution of Mr. Kang Zhiguo in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province and How He Suffered Before His Death

Jan. 17, 2007

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Kang Zhiguo, who was born in 1954, was a mechanical and electrical worker with the Xishan Coal Electricity Group Inc. in Taiyuan City. He started practicing Falun Dafa in 1997. After July 20, 1999, he appealed in front of the gate of the Shanxi Provincial Committee and was illegally arrested. In February 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal and was again arrested. Later he was sent to a labor camp for one year.

In 2002, head of Fudi Police Station Zhang Zishan, political instructor Zhang Shiping, and deputy heads Ma Baoyin and Wang Zhiliang (these four persecuted Dafa disciple Yang Qingmin to death) forced Mr. Kang to write a "guarantee statement." He was forced to leave home with another practitioner, Li Guozheng, to avoid further persecution.

On October 1, 2002, when Mr. Kang was distributing materials in the Xinghua South District in Taiyuan City, he was arrested by CCP agents. They had formed a special case team called "Critical Case 101" and arrested more than 20 practitioners. Yang Mingxi, the deputy head of Wanbolin District Public Security Bureau, was appointed leader of the case; Zheng Yongsheng of an anti-narcotics team was appointed deputy head. They brutally tortured Kang Zhiguo and other practitioners.

At Wanbolin Detention Center, prisoner Wu Ke tortured and beat Mr. Kang many times. On December 9, 2002, practitioner Ding Liyan was persecuted to death at Taiyuan Detention Center. On July 22, 2003, practitioner Wang Zhiming was tortured to death by Jia Junfeng, the deputy head of Wanbolin Detention Center, Dr. Ma, and other officials. Policeman Zheng Yongsheng shot both Zhong Zhongjiang and Meng Fengwei in the legs and crippled both practitioners.

At the beginning of November 2003, Mr. Kang was imprisoned at the fifth ward zone (the former fourth ward zone) of Jinzhong Prison in Shanxi Province. Prison guard instructor Zhao Weizhong of the first brigade threatened to "transform" him. At the end of December, they launched the first round of concentrated force and violence. They ordered the prisoners to persecute Mr. Kang. Zhao Weizhong promised those criminals that as long as they "transformed" Kang Zhiguo, they could use any means they chose. He just cared about the result, not the process. As long as they could "transform" Kang Zhiguo, there would be no problem getting their sentences reduced. He could reduce their terms as much as he chose.

They tortured Mr. Kang by forcing him to sit for long periods of time without moving and to stand without moving for a long time. A prisoner named Duan Shi, a murderer from Linfen, Shanxi Province, who had a postponed death sentence, beat Mr. Kang every day. The scenes were horrible to witness. Only after Mr. Kang became paralyzed from the beatings were his tormentors slightly restrained. The persecution lasted for one month.

In May 2004, a new round of persecution started. This time, the prison guards employed even more wicked prisoners. A murderer named Hou Senbiao, a gang kidnapper from Taiyuan, Shanxi, serving a 20-year term, beat Kang Zhiguo mercilessly with a wooden club. Mr. Kang shouted "Help!" Prison guard Li Weiping from Pingyao heard Mr. Kang. He did not stop the criminal but instead said to Kang, "What are you shouting about!" Then Li forced Kang Zhiguo to stand with his face against the wall.

The other prisoners involved in the beatings included Wang Jingdong, a murderer from Qingdao, Shandong Province, who was imprisoned for life, and Hu Wenxue from Shanxi Province. This time, the persecution lasted for three months.

Mr. Kang Zhiguo was beaten until he was paralyzed in January 2004. On May 18, 2005, he suffered a relapse. Three days later, he died.

Those who orchestrated the event were Kong Xiangjing and Zhao Weizhong, political instructors of the prison guards in the fifth ward zone. Those directly responsible for Mr. Kang's death were prisoners Duan Shi, Hou Senbiao, Wang Jingdong, and Hu Wenxue.
