Persecution Experiences of a Former Student at Harbin Medical University (Heilongjiang Province)

April 15, 2007

(Clearwisdom.net) I attended Harbin Medical University from 1998 and started practicing Falun Gong in March 1999.

After "April 25", 1999, the original practice activities and Fa study sites were closed down under duress. Later I joined an appeal with other practitioners at the Harbin City Hall. Many riot police then pushed and beat the petitioners and put them into big buses. I was sent to a school. They attempted to keep us there, but we got out. I went back to the Provincial Government Office to continue my appeal. This time I was sent to a stadium in the Eighth District. They ordered officials from different cities and counties to come claim us. They recorded our personal information, such as name, workplace and address before we were allowed to leave.

At the university, teachers Li Ying and Song Chuntao, as well as the people from the security office and from the student administration office, came to talk to me and told me to give up Falun Gong practice. They also confiscated my Dafa books. They even called my father and told him to come to the university from my hometown in the countryside to persuade me to stop practicing Falun Dafa.

When I refused them, they incarcerated me in a university-owned rest house and forced me to read newspapers and watch videos which slandered Dafa and Master. They forbade me from studying, having contact with my classmates, or going back to my dorm. Even for my computer science exam they would come and pick me up, take me to the exam place and then take me back. I completely lost my normal study and living environment.

People arrived continually to persuade and force me to give up Falun Dafa, including security officer Xie, vice president Wo Zhenzhong, the secretary (female) of the College of Basic Medicine, student administration office staff member Li Lanzhi and others. Jin Lianhong was university president then. Because I refused to give up the cultivation practice, the university threatened to dismiss me from school or send me to a detention center. Owing to the heavy pressure, I was compelled to write an application to leave the school, and was then sent back home.

After I returned home my family felt sad and angry for me. My mother even wanted to take me by the throat. Later, losing my mental willpower, I compromised under pressure from my family and neighbors.

I then went back to Harbin Medical University. I was ordered to write a daily progress report and forced to read a large pile of Dafa-slandering newspapers.

Before long I started to practice again. In March 2000 I went to Beijing to appeal to higher authorities against this unlawful treatment. On the train, policemen were checking passenger IDs and tried to arrest the practitioners who were going to Beijing to appeal. Many plainclothes policemen were at the railway station. In Tiananmen Square a large contingent of policemen as well as plainclothes officers were waiting to arrest Dafa practitioners.

I asked one of the Tiananmen Square policemen what I should do if I wanted to appeal. He said to me, "Wait a minute." Then a police vehicle came, and they put me in and took me to the Tiananmen Police Station. After they registered my personal information they locked me in a cell. I was later sent back to Heilongjing Province by Harbin City Beijing Liaison Office personnel.

Back in Harbin, persecutors from Harbin Medical University and from the city's First Police Department sent me to the Harbin Second Detention Center. The policeman interrogating me was Zheng Zhenfeng. He ordered me to write a guarantee statement promising to give up Falun Gong, and a promissory note saying that I wouldn't go to Beijing to appeal, or I would not be released. I refused him. He then wanted to send me to labor camp, but that didn't happen.

The detention center captors forced us to provide our finger prints and forbade us from practicing. I was eventually forced to write a guarantee statement promising not to go to Beijing to appeal. Then I got out.

The detention center forced my family to pay 3,000 yuan and made me buy a 50 yuan book that slanders Falun Gong practitioners. I was illegally detained for two months. After I was released from the detention center my teacher, Song Chuntao, from Harbin Medical University had me sign a resignation form, meaning I was dismissed from school.

Once back home I worked in the fields during the day, and at night when I was resting my mother sat beside the pillows and cried hard. She would cry for half the night. Every day was like this. I tried to escape from home during the May holiday. She found out and brought me back. Later I once again compromised against my will [promising my mother I would give up Falun Gong and continue my study.] I went back to Harbin Medical University and repeated one grade.

At this point, inside, I felt like I had completely lost my will. Obviously, they were committing crimes against me, but they made it look like they were doing me a favor and that I had to appreciate them. They infringed on people's rights, distorted people's minds and spirits, and they confused right and wrong. This is a terrible persecution and an unrestrained eradication effort.

In the fall of 2000, the teachers in charge of the students who attended college in 1999 went to my dorm and searched my personal belongings without my permission. They took my Dafa books and a truth clarification flyer. Zhang Weihong was one of the instructors there. I asked him to return the books to me. He refused. Actually, for a long time my classmates and roommates were watching me at class and in the dorm, and even tracking me. School officials told me to write my thoughts about Dafa. I truthfully told them that I will remain steadfast in my belief in Dafa and practice to the end. Then the school officials sent me home.

I ran away from home, went to Harbin and found a job and lived a difficult life until December, 2000, when I went to Beijing again and opened a Falun Dafa banner.

The police patrolling Tiananmen Square arrested me and sent me to the Tianqiao Police Station. The policemen deceived, threatened, beat and cursed, frisked and took pictures of the arrested practitioners. I took a chance to escape, but was caught. Then I suffered assault and battery by thugs hired by the police.

I was taken away by the policemen from the Heilongjiang Province Liaison Office in Beijing. I was arrested and locked up for two weeks. Later I was sent to the Wangkui County Detention Center in Heilongjiang Province. This transfer was carried out by Qi Te and Wei Zhijiang from the Wangkui County Tongjiang Town Police Station in Heilongjiang Province and a staff person from Harbin Medical University.

In the detention center I held a protest hunger strike to affirm the crime of illegal detention. Wangkui County officials set up a public trial. They tied me with murders, rapist and other serious criminals on a big truck and publicly paraded us on the street. They prepared to set up a live TV taping. I was loudly shouting, "Falun Dafa is good!" They used a towel to gag me, tied me with ropes and pushed me to the back of the truck. One of the policemen slammed his knee on my heart. The pain was extreme.

Later, Wangkui County sub-prefect Fan Changtai came to the detention center. We met, and I told him of the undeserved situation of Dafa as well as my persecution experiences that were totally unlawful, but he still didn't release me. In the summer of 2001 I was sent to the Qiqihar City Shuanghe Forced Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province, and was sentenced to two years.

While at the Qiqihar City Shuanghe Forced Labor Camp I was locked in a small dark room for three months. Collaborators came to persuade me and tried to force me to give up Falun Dafa. They were talking lies, pretending to be kind at first, and then became threatening.

Practitioners incarcerated there were forbidden to meet with their families. They were also forbidden to study Dafa and do the exercises, or to speak with other practitioners. I was eventually transferred to another cell and forced to work in a low, small and cramped room packaging noxious pesticide powder.

The air in the room was very bad and had physically affected me in a negative way. My knees were swollen and in pain, and I could not squat or even walk normally. My ankles were swollen as well. According to the prison doctor, there was a possibility I would lose bone density and end up with deformed bones. My bowel and bladder functions and menstruations were abnormal, and my body was weak and thin. My brain even responded slowly.

By then, many people were personally involved in the Falun Gong persecution in various ways. These people included Shuanghe Forced Labor Camp deputy head Hong, middle official Guo Li, my division leader Zhang Zhijie, deputy division leaders Wang Mei, Fu Chengjuan, and Zhang Shunrong, policemen Hong jiayin (later transferred to another place), Kang Yan, Yang Wenjing, Yang Fenghua, Huang Jing, Zhang Lili, Liu Mouzhi, Zhu Shuang, Wang Yang, Chen Jianhua, Shi Zhe, bodyguard team leader and Wang Mei's husband. They often foraged about Dafa practitioner's luggage and other personal belongings. They confiscated Jingwen (Master's articles published on the Minghui website) and beat practitioners. They told prisoners and collaborators to continually monitor Dafa practitioners. One time, when they were trying to confiscate an article they even had males body-search women Dafa practitioners. After this, all the practitioners went on a hunger strike and were subjected to force-feeding afterwards.

In 2002, once again people in Zhang Zhijie's group were trying to confiscate one of Master's articles. I protested this devilry. Zhang Zhijie slapped my face and tied me onto a metal chair for a month. This chair was located in a small, windowless room on the top floor, where there was no heat. It was a two square meter space, and every day the door was shut and the room was very dark. On the back wall was a big hole that the police had intentionally made. The temperature in the cell was the same as the temperature outside. I was wearing a down vest and a pair of light sneakers then. My hands were stretched over the top of the chair back and locked under the chair with handcuffs. It made my whole body stretch up. The daily food consisted of two pieces of steamed bread and a bit of salted radish. The toilet pot was kept inside the cell.

It was impossible to sleep, and whenever my body relaxed a little bit, the handcuffs would stretch and press my arms and wrists. This was very painful. After a few days there was no one available to monitor me, so they transferred me to an office room. There I was compelled to watch Falun Dafa-slandering video as well as the evil deeds the collaborators had done. They even taped my mouth shut to prevent me from exposing the truth. On that top floor were five small rooms with the same metal chairs I had been locked onto. I have heard that other places also have the same kinds of things. They all are used to persecute Dafa practitioners.

When I got off the metal chair, my arms and hands as well as one of my legs had lost their function and were numb. My feet were numb, and I could not lift my arms. I was nearly crippled. Because the handcuffs had cut into the skin, my wrists had become bloody and infected. One of my arms also had a large infected spot from the long-time chair pressure. I was also emaciated, and I had blood in my stool. Furthermore, they added three months to my prison term but actually it amounted to two months and ten days. By the time one is supposed to be released the officials still won't let one go. When I was finally released from the Shuanghe Forced Labor Camp, the officials requested I sign a paper saying that I would cooperate with agents at the Tongjiang Town Police Station in Wangkui County (Heilongjiang Province) and give them permission to disturb my life. I refused.

After I returned home, agents from the Wangkui County Tongjiang Town Police Station came to my home and did a so-called "look over" to harass me. To avoid additional persecution, I left home in June 2003 and got a job. During the time I had been illegally detained in a labor camp, Harbin Medical University officials had transfered my permanent residency registration to the Tongjiang Police Station, due to my leaving school. However, Tongjiang Police Station personnel had not registered me and sent the registration to my father. I ended up without a certificate of graduation, no permanent residency registration and no ID. That made for a lot of inconveniences in my life.

The Chinese Constitution guarantees Chinese citizens' personal freedom, freedom of belief and of expression, freedom of assembly, and other rights, as well as the right to get an education, and the right to appeal to higher authorities. However, all of these rights to which I am entitled were curtailed and denied. The criminal is the Party in power in China today, as well as the followers of its regime.
