The Difference Between "Leaving It Alone" Versus "Having an Unaffected Heart"

May 31, 2007

(Clearwisdom.net) A few days ago, I was puzzled when helping a fellow practitioner to overcome his tribulations. Another practitioner dropped by, so I shared my confusion with him. The practitioner told me that quite a few practitioners had passed away from sickness karma. Other practitioners handled such situations by "leaving it alone." I felt even more puzzled after this practitioner left. Let me briefly share with you what happened.

It is about senior practitioner A, who had attended Master Li Hongzhi's Fa lecture series. His wife and daughter are both veteran practitioners. In 1999, he couldn't understand why Dafa was being persecuted. He was confused. Particularly, he couldn't understand why practitioners went to Beijing to validate Dafa. He made irresponsible remarks in a group of practitioners and couldn't understand Dafa with rationality. In 2002, practitioners in our area began to share experiences with these practitioners. One practitioner with his celestial eye open saw that practitioner A's body in other dimensions was very severely persecuted, but he didn't tell A directly. Practitioner A's attitude severely interfered with his wife and his daughter. Many practitioners left him alone after attempting to help him. I started to study the Fa with him in 2005 and we formed a Fa-study group at his home.

In the group Fa study, at first every one criticized practitioner A. Whenever we had a new understanding of the Fa, we shared it with him. If a practitioner with his celestial eye open saw anything about him, he would also tell him. Everyone sent forth righteous thoughts for him. However, it didn't seem to help, and he didn't feel any different. Then we all realized that we had been too attached to his condition and to this issue. He had become another motive for us to study the Fa. We calmed down. Then we no longer studied the Fa just for his sake. Instead, Fa study was to study the Fa and to cultivate and improve our characters. The purpose of sending forth righteous thoughts was to eliminate the evil and any factors in our bodies that were not righteous and could poison the sentient beings, so that we ourselves formed a most righteous field. When we shared experiences, we no longer limited our topics to this issue. Instead, we focused on "spreading the Nine Commentaries and encouraging people to quit the Party." If practitioner A had something to share, he would share it; otherwise, he didn't have to share anything. When he shared, we also paid attention to whether he had "enlightened" along an evil path, whether he had the attachment to pursue knowledge, and whether he doubted Master. If we noticed such problems, we told him to enlighten on the basis of the Fa because a pure cultivation environment should not meddle with anything impure. However, he claimed that he didn't feel any major improvement in his health. He didn't believe that sending forth righteous thoughts would help. He sought to open his celestial eye and became more and more attached to pursing the result. I was confused. I have always tried my best to help fellow practitioner's cultivation. Why has he become so attached? What exactly went wrong? I shared with other practitioners and hoped to find a solution. However, I was told to "leave it alone." Actually many coordinators in our area had the same opinion.

Teacher told us:

"As Dafa disciples, you should understand things from the Fa." ("Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference")

It is a personal issue if one practitioner thinks about it that way. However, if two, three or more practitioners all think that way, won't it be a big deal?

"As I've said, everything that happens today in the ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.")

If it is a general practice for practitioners to deal with such issues without benevolence, how can we improve as a whole body in this issue in our area? Won't the evil take advantage of our huge gap? Is it a right mindset for us not to help those practitioners? We don't know under what conditions a practitioner has said, "Leave it alone." He had his own realm of thought, his own thinking, and his own meaning at his level. However, when this notion is spread, others may not understand the first practitioner's thinking. Imagine how "leaving it alone" could eventually evolve to "letting it perish." If so, how could we fulfill our mission to help Master rectify the Fa and save sentient beings?

I hope every practitioner who has such thoughts will get rid of them. It would be a serious demonic obstacle for the practitioner in tribulation. If we regard the issue with indifference, how can we do well? This also reminds me of what Master told us,

"...just by having your heart unaffected you will be able to handle all situations." ("Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s)" in Essentials for Further Advancement II)

What would be the result if we helped a practitioner with our hearts unaffected? I shared my understanding with practitioners in our Fa-study group. I thought each one of us was affected. We all considered helping the practitioner from our own point of view and failed to measure ourselves with the standard of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance."

Of course, sometimes the old forces attempted to divert our attention by persecuting certain practitioners so as to occupy our time that ought to be used to "clarify truth." Under such situations, we must let go of our sentimental attachments and continue to focus on doing the three things well. Only by doing so can we eliminate the interference as soon as possible.

Our Fa-study group continues to study the Fa together. Although sometimes our hearts may still be affected, we remind ourselves to keep our hearts unaffected and try our best to deal with everything that happens to us and around us based on our understanding of the Fa and with rationality.
