(Clearwisdom.net) Liu Hongji was a practitioner from Qingdao City. He passed away on May 2, 2007 at age of 76. Just before he died, his family petitioned Jinan City Women's Prison authorities to allow his oldest daughter Liu Xiuzhen to see her father for the last time, but their request was coldly refused.

1. Recovering from cancer

Prior to Falun Gong practice, Mr. Liu Hongji had several diseases. One of them was hardening of the arteries. This eventually distorted the normal shape of his mouth and eyes and made him unable to walk normally. His high blood pressure remained high. In 1997 he was diagnosed with liver cancer. A doctor told him it might be helpful to practice Falun Gong.

Liu Hongji then started to practice Falun Gong. He became healthy and has since then not had to take any medication. He used to have a bad temper but changed after practicing Falun Gong. He became thoughtful and earnestly helped others.

People who knew him and worked with him witnessed his changes, which drew many people to practice Falun Gong. They included his wife Han Zhenmei, his oldest daughter Liu Xiuzhen, the second daughter Liu Xiufang, the third daughter Li Xiuzhi, and the son of his oldest daughter Yang Naijian who all became Falun Gong practitioners.

Since the onset of the CCPs' evil persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Liu Hongji's family has never again had a peaceful life. Every member suffered from different kinds of persecution, such as being forced to write a "guarantee statement," attending a brainwashing class, having extorted money extorted from them, having their home searched, illegal detention, mental hospital detention, being sent to forced labor, and illegally sentenced to prison.

2. Suffering persecution for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing and for clarifying the facts

On July 20, 1999, Liu Hongji went to Beijing to petition for justice for Falun Gong based on his trust in the government but was intercepted before arriving in Beijing. He was sent back to his hometown. Since then, local police and regime officials have kept harassing him. Once, agents from the Qingdao City 610 Office detained and then released him after his family paid 1,000 yuan.

His second daughter Liu Xiufang accompanied her parents on the trip to Beijing. She was sent back by local town officer Qiao Cunhong and local officers from the Liuting Police Station. She was detained at the Liuting Town government building and was forcibly brainwashed and made to sign a "guarantee statement." Her home was searched and personal property was confiscated.

On October 6, 2000 his second daughter Liu Xiufang attempted to appeal for Falun Gong in Beijing and was intercepted on the way. The persecutors first detained her in the local police station and then sent her to the Chengyang District Police Department. Three days later they transferred her to the Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City. Police tried to sentence her to three years of forced labor but failed. Liuting residential committee officials and Shuangbu Village committee people took the opportunity to extort 10,000 yuan from her family. Shuangbu Village Party branch head Zhang Xungui extorted 3,200 yuan from the family as well.

On December 18, 2000 Liu Xiufang once again went to Beijing to appeal. She was escorted back by the staff from the Liuting residential committee office. The persecutors were Liuting residential committee staff Qiao Cunhong and deputy Shuangbu Village head Jiang Congjun. She was detained at the Liuting Police Station and compelled to sit on a bench day and night for 13 days.

Around 10:00 a.m. on January 17, 2001, Chen Wen, Hu Naijing and Chao from the Liuting Police Station secretly took Liu Xuefang from Dashan Detention Center to the Zhonghan Mental Hospital in Li Village in the Lichang District. She was tied to a bed and injected with nerve-damaging drugs for seven days. She eventually escaped from there with the power of her righteous thoughts. She decided to go into hiding to avoid further persecution.

Police looked for her and kept harassing her parents. They often knocked the window and laid prone on the wall to scare the elderly couple, which made her parents unable to rest. Their lives were constantly interrupted. Once, when police rushed in to search their home, they rummaged through chests and boxes, frightening the couple severely. They even uncovered the bedding and disturbed their four-year-old grandson who was asleep. Police threatened the couple, demanding that they find their daughter.

3. The whole family suffers from the persecution

In February 2002, Liu Xiufang, her oldest sister Liu Xiuzhen, and her nephew Yang Naijian were reported to police and arrested when they distributed truth-clarification materials in Xianjiazai Village, the Chengyang District. Participating in the arrest were five or six security personnel from Xianjiazai Villiage and an officer from the Liuting Police Station. When the sisters' mother Han Zhenmei heard the news, she was so afraid that she vomited the whole night.

A few days later, government officer Hou Chengjian and police agents deceived Mr. Liu, saying they wanted to talk to him about the release of his two daughters and his grandson. He was seized and taken to the city "610 Office" brainwashing class without the knowledge of the family. His family noticed something amiss when he did not return for dinner. His son kept looking for him, and finally a kindhearted person told him what happened. His son went to the "610 Office" to ask for his release. They initially tried to extort 3,000 yuan from the family, but eventually accepted 1,000 yuan when they realized that the family was really poor. Liu Hongji was then released.

On February 24, 2002, Liu Xiufang and her sister Liu Xiuzhen were sent to the Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao. Her nephew Yang Naijian was sent to the Chengyang Detention Center in the Lichang District

On March 19, 2002, officers Wang Jizhu and Wang [given name unknown] from the Liuting Police Station took the sisters to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. Yang Naijian was taken to the Qingdao City Forced Labor Camp for three years of forced labor that same day.

Around 8:00 p.m. on May 12, 2006, seven or eight personnel from the Liuting Police Station arrested practitioners Yang Naijian, his mother Liu Xiuzhen and Yang Youfang in Yang Naijian's home. They dragged Yang Naijian into the street and brutally kicked his lower body publicly. When they arrived at the police station, several officers immediately besieged Yang Naijian and beat him again. He was pushed to the ground and handcuffed behind the back. They beat him in front of his mother Liu Xiuzhen, and beat Liu Xiuzhen in front of her son Yang Naijian. One of the police officers brutally kicked Liu Xiuzhen's lower jaw and chest. Early in the morning on May 13, 2006, Zhao Village police officer Yuan Xidao and Bai Jiahao, Liuting Police Station head Lu Weizhong's driver, frenziedly beat Yuan Naijian. Bai Jiahao shoved his knee with great force into Yang Naijian's lower abdomen, making him incontinent. Yuan Xidao beat Yang Naijian's back, chest and the legs with a rubber truncheon. He also ruthlessly beat Yang's face with a slipper. Bai Jiahao used a rolled-up magazine to beat Yang's face as well. Luckily, Yang Naijian escaped that night.

Around 11:00 p.m. several police officers took Liu Xiuzhen to Liu Hongji's home. They searched the home and remained there until 2:00 a.m.

A little past 7:00 a.m. the next day they arrived again to harass Liu Hongji and looking for his grandson Yang Naijian. Grandma Han Zhenmei tried to reason with them. They abused her verbally and threatened to shoot her.

At 3:00 p.m. that afternoon they sent Liu Xiuzhen to the No.1 Detention Center in Qingdao. Her home was searched. Later on they went to Liu Hongji's home twice to search for his grandson Yang Naijian.

After Liu Xiuzhen was arrested on May 12, 2006, on May 15, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. Liuting Police Station head Lu Weizhong and six police officers arrived to search her sister Liu Xiufang's home in Shuangbu Village. They didn't find anything, but Lu Weizhong confiscated the family's motorcycle. Several days later they arrived at Liu Xiufang's husband's workplace and inquired after Liu Xiufang's whereabouts. Liu Xiufang once again decided to leave home and wander about.

On June 13, 2006, police head Liu Weizhong colluded with agents from the municipal "610 Office" and pressured Qingdao Ocean Technology Museum to fire Liu Xiufang's son who was a temporary employee there.

Liu Xiuzhi is Liu Hongji's third daughter who worked at the Qingdao Ocean Technology Museum. She had helped her parents Liu Hongji and Han Zhenfang go to Liuting Police Station to ask for the release of her sister Liu Xiuzhen and her nephew Yang Naijian. Police station head Lu Weizhong, as mentioned above, colluded with agents from the municipal "610 Office" and from the Qingdao Ocean Technology Museum. They tried to intimidate her into giving up her belief. Her salary was lowered and she had to accept a less responsible position. She was threatened with job loss and forfeiting the annual bonus.

Several months later the oldest daughter Liu Xiuzhen was secretly sentenced to four years in prison and was detained at the Jinan Women's Prison.

4. Liu Hongji passes away

Liu Hongji suffered so much physically and mentally. His condition dramatically degenerated. At the end of June 2006, he had a sizable boil on his back that festered and bled. He sometimes had to lie in bed all day. In the fall he started to cough and even began to vomit blood. Eventually he became mentally confused and had incontinence. His son sent him to a hospital. His cancer had returned. Three different cancers appeared: liver, lymph and brain cancer. The doctor said he could not live more than two months. After he left hospital he completely depended on others' care. He was unable to speak and was unable to turn over. He died on May 2, 2007.

That day in the morning his oldest daughter Liu Xiuzhen who was incarcerated at the Jinan Women's Prison had an ominous feeling. She called at 10:00 a.m. and asked to talk to her father. The family knew her health was not good due to the prison abuse and the 10-plus hours of hard labor at the prison each day. They were afraid she couldn't handle the bad news and told her that her father was still asleep. Liu Xiuzhen's cousin took over the phone and asked to talk to the prison authorities. He urged them to let Liu Xiuzhen come home to see her father for the last time. However, his request was refused because Li Xiuzhen had not fully "reformed." Liu Xiuzhen still doesn't know that her father has died.
