2001 TV News Story Covered Up a Practitioner's Escape from Illegal Detention, Saying Instead that She Committed Suicide

Aug. 10, 2007 |   By a practitioner in Songyuan City, Jilin Province

(Clearwisdom.net) In 2001, the local TV station in Songyuan City, Jilin Province reported in its news program that He Jinying, a student in Songyuan City Normal University, jumped into the river to commit suicide because she practiced Falun Gong. After investigation it was found that this was a lie fabricated to defame Falun Gong.

Those who knew He Jinying and saw the news on TV were all shocked when they found that she was alive and well. Often their first sentence was: "We heard you were dead!"

Her cousin even went to see her mother and said to her sadly: "Auntie, cousin Jinying jumped into the river and committed suicide. It was on TV." Her mother laughed and said: "She is alright." So that more people can see the evil nature of the Communist Party, we are now reporting the true story of Ms. He's persecution.

He Jinying was a student at Songyuan Normal University in the class of '97. She was forced to quit school in 2000 and was arrested and taken into a brainwashing center. Those who went to arrest Ms. He were Ding Hongxi, deputy head of Hongxing Branch in Qianguo County, Jilin Province, Mr. Ge, a civilian employee in the police station, and Mr. Chu, the driver. The three of them dragged Ms. He away by force, and took her to the city 610 Office Brainwashing Center to persecute her. Ms. He jumped out of the window at night, and then the TV station fabricated the story of her committing suicide.

Ms. He began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. She had many illnesses before practicing, and both her physical and mental health improved dramatically after she began her cultivation. Her pale and skinny appearance quickly turned to a healthy glow, and her heart was purified with Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Tolerance, the principles of Falun Dafa. Her grades steadily improved and she had the highest scores upon entering Songyuan Normal University.

After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, the environment for cultivation was spoiled. To expose the TV station's slander of Falun Gong and let people know the facts, Ms. He went to Tiananmen Square on October 26 to appeal. She was only 17 at the time. She was arrested and put into a police car and jailed in a nearby detention center.

Policemen violently kicked her head, dragged her and threw her against a wall. They slapped her and pulled her hair. She went on a hunger strike to protest, and was force-fed. The persecution lasted for about a week. Then they moved her to a local jail and held her for fifteen days.

On March 4, 2000, Ms. He was taken back to school. The party director of the school Mr. Zhang said: "It is either school or Falun Gong. You have to choose between the two." On March 6, Mr. Zhang sent her to Jiangbei Detention Center for fifteen days on account of her going to Beijing to appeal. Afterwards, they suspended her from school. At sunset on May 9, they took her into custody and held her in the brainwashing center. They forced her to write reports denouncing Falun Gong, and threatened her with not arranging jobs for her after graduation.

Ms. He refused to sell out her conscience and the school locked her up on the second floor of the administration building, and had a guard watching her. At midnight, Ms. He jumped barefoot out of the second floor window and ran away. People from the school went to her house to look for her. They told her mother that the school had treated her very nicely, but she had run away when going to the restroom. Soon afterwards, the TV station in Songyuan City fabricated the story of Ms. He's suicide, in an attempt to incite hatred toward Falun Gong.
