Understanding Events Related to My Son's Schooling

Nov. 19, 2008 |   By a practitioner in Hebei Province

(Clearwisdom.net) When my son was old enough, my husband and I applied for his admission to a city elementary school. The school recruiter told us, "There are so many students applying this year. You have to do something special to be considered," implying that he expected us to send him gifts or money. We had just moved from the countryside, and our finances were limited. We didn't have more than 500 yuan in our bank account; how could we afford to buy gifts? We felt sad and didn't know what to do.

I recalled Master's words in Zhuan Falun:

"in our ordinary human society, after birth one belongs to a certain family, a certain school, and upon growing up a certain workplace; various contacts in society are made through a person's job. That is, the layout of the entire society has been planned this way."

I came to understand that everything had already been arranged, and it was not up to us whether or not to provide gifts. Besides, our family of three was practicing Dafa, and Master had arranged our fate. Whether our son would or would not be admitted to that school would turn out to be a good thing.

We waited for the admission results to be posted in 15 days and checked when the time came, but were told to wait another ten days. When those ten days were up and we checked again, we were told to wait yet another 10 days. After that we waited five more days and still didn't hear anything. Every time it was an ordeal for us, but our faith in the Fa conquered our thoughts. Finally, when my husband went to work one morning, he returned immediately, telling me excitedly that our son had been admitted. I was in tears. Our son could finally attend school in the city.

At home, we would often play cassette tapes of Master's lectures, even when our son was doing homework. His academic record always topped the class.

As my son finished elementary school, it was time to apply for middle school. The middle schools were zoned and our son was supposed to go to the least popular middle school, according to our household registration. To change schools and cross a zone, one would have to pay thousands of yuan. Some of his classmates' parents paid the money and moved their children to a better school, but quite a few had to drop out because they couldn't keep up with the course load. Our friends warned us not to send our son to our assigned school because of its inferior reputation.

Our family had to make a major decision. After pondering, I told our son, "We are practitioners and won't be affected by the environment. Master has said that non-practitioners cannot affect us; instead, we can benefit them. With guidance from the Fa and protection from Master, you can study well at any school. We shouldn't choose a school according to its reputation; instead, we should make the school proud of having you, a young Dafa disciple, because everyone there is a being waiting to be offered salvation."

Our son happily attended the designated school. Three years later, he graduated with a superb academic record and was admitted to a first-class high school. His middle school even posted a congratulatory statement. His schoolteachers and classmates praised him for being a student of good character and scholarship. He and I had clarified the facts of Falun Gong to many of his classmates. Moreover, he left his remarks in many classmates' yearbooks: "Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!"

These events taught me that no school--of good reputation or bad--will affect a Dafa disciple. As long as we let go of our notions and follow Master and the Fa, Master will give us the very best.
