The Persecution of Ms. Tang Xuzhen, Associate Professor from Luzhou Medical College, Sichuan Province

May 28, 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) From July 1999 to 2005, Ms. Tang Xuzhen, an associate professor from Luzhou Medical College, Sichuan Province, has been detained six times and sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp.

Ms. Tang, at sixty-nine years old, was energetic and free of illness. People who met her would never imagine that she was once terminally ill. Ms. Tang was a doctor herself but suffered from many illnesses. She could only work half a day due to her many health problems. She had to constantly take ginseng to maintain her energy. She also suffered from a nasopharyngeal tumor, which caused progressive bleeding (the nasopharynx is the area where the back part of the nose opens into the throat). Every time she ate, she suffered because the food disturbed the nasopharynx. It was extremely painful. Even drugs couldn't stop the bleeding.

At this critical juncture of her life, Tang Xuzhen came across Falun Dafa. After practicing for a short period, she passed black-colored blood (about 400-500ml). After that all her symptoms of illness disappeared, and there was no more bleeding. Ms. Tang personally experienced the effectiveness of Falun Dafa. She constantly studied the Fa and practiced the exercises. Soon, all of her diseases disappeared. She witnessed the miracle and beauty of Falun Dafa. She said, "Without diseases my body feels so light. Having a healthy body is so wonderful. It is Master who saved me. It is Dafa that saved me. From the bottom of my heart, I exclaim: 'Falun Dafa is wonderful and Zhen, Shan and Ren [Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance] is good!"

On July 20, 1999 Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Dafa. Ms Tang traveled to Beijing to appeal for justice in October 1999. Believing that the government didn't understand Dafa, she wanted tell the government the real story of Falun Dafa from her own experiences. As soon as she arrived at Tiananmen Square she was illegally arrested by the police. After being detained in Beijing for four days, she was sent back to her hometown.

At the end of December 2000, Tang Xuzhen again went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She traveled through Guiyang City, where she was again arrested. Two days later, her work unit, under pressure from the 610 Office in Luzhou City, sent two people to Guizhou to collect her. They stole 200 yuan from her wallet and a train ticket worth about 600 yuan. After arriving in Luzhou, Ms. Tang was detained in the Huangjingshan Detention Center for 13 days. 1,700 yuan was taken from her salary.

Forced by the 610 Office and CCP intelligence agents, officials from Ms. Tang's work unit often sent people to harass her at home and follow her around. One official managed to get the telephone numbers of her relatives and friends, and handed these over to the 610 Office and the police department. The numbers were used to listen in on phone conversations. One day Ms. Tang's sister-in-law phoned and asked, "How many people will come from Luzhou? I will arrange the hotel." As soon as they heard this, the police thought Falun Gong practitioners from Luzhou would go to Chengdu to appeal and from there onto Beijing. So they stationed personnel to watch her. Actually, it was their relative in Chengdu who invited relatives and friends from Luzhou to a wedding. One simple phone conversation led to a huge waste of resources.

For all these years since 2000, Ms. Tang Xuzhen has been watched, followed and her personal freedom severely violated. She has had to live under an extremely oppressive environment. One day she went out with friends. Just outside the gate she found someone videotaping her. She approached to see who the person was, but the man got into a car and fled. Police from the Dashanping Police Station also secretly took photos of Ms. Tang and asked her husband to identify them. One day she went home by taxi and found her home surrounded by police cars and motorcycles. They were all waiting for her. They knew her whereabouts and could harass and arrest her at any time. Personnel in the reception area in her living compound watched her on a long-term basis. On the street Ms. Tang always found someone following her at a distance.

Arrest, detention, forced labor and deprivation of freedom are the usual means that the CCP uses to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Tang went to appeal but was detained at Huangjingshan Detention Center for 13 days, moved to the Sanhuashan Custodial Station and detained there for another eight months. She was then sent to a brainwashing center. She could be arrested at any time. Once when Ms. Tang was just walking on the street, she was suddenly arrested.

In this CCP prison - the brainwashing center, Ms. Tang refused to take the materials that slandered Master Li and Falun Dafa. Officials then forced her to stand for a long time. She resisted the persecution and recited Teacher's Fa while standing. Wang Yongzhen, an official from the Town Government and in charge of the brainwashing center, swore at her and struck her in the face. Her face swelled up instantly.

In 2005, Ms. Tang was arrested again and was detained at the "intensive brainwashing center." In the cell were three people who ate, lived and slept in her cell 24 hours a day, monitoring her closely. If they saw her practicing the Falun Gong exercises, they would kick her hard. When sleeping at night, one of them (surnamed Zhou) put her legs on top of Ms. Tang to prevent her from getting up. The room was also monitored electronically. Thus Ms. Tang had no freedom at all.

Another means the CCP uses to persecute Falun Gong practitioners is to implicate their family members and persecute them too. On October 14, 2001, Ms. Tang managed to walk free from the brainwashing center. But she was forced to leave her home and travel from place to place in order to avoid being arrested again. The 610 Office in Luzhou City ordered her children to leave work to look for her, thereby forcing the whole family to participate in the persecution. Officials went to Ms. Tang's relatives' and friends' homes and searched their houses as well. They even went to her classmates' homes.

Officials from Luzhou City, from the 610 Office and the local police carry out the CCP's persecution policy, which is to relentlessly harass, follow, arrest, and detain practitioners and send them to forced labor camps. The family of Ms. Tang Xuzhen live in constant fear and terror.
