Ms. Sun Juping of Tonghua City, Jilin Province Sentenced to Three Years of Forced Labor

June 9, 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) Although Ms. Sun Junping of Tonghua City, Jilin Province was recently sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp, she has been arrested and imprisoned many times in recent years.

In late May 2000, while on her way to Beijing, Ms. Sun was arrested in Shenyang City by police from the Taoyuan Police Station. She was then illegally detained for a month.

In July, 2000, Ms. Sun was detained for 52 days for refusing to write a guarantee stating that she would not go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong.

In February 2001, Ms. Sun was taken to a brainwashing center.

In June 2001, Ms. Sun was sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp and her home was searched.

In August 2003, Ms. Sun was sentenced to three years of forced labor. At the forced labor camp, because Ms. Sun refused to "reform," she was forced to stand for extended periods and deprived of sleep. The guards beat her and shocked her with electric batons. She was forced to work 18-22 hours each day. When she protested and refused to perform slave labor any longer, the guards tortured her, starved her, prohibited her from using the bathroom, and deprived her of sleep. They even extended her sentence by 65 days.

Most recently, Sun Junping was arrested at her apartment in the Xinzhan area by police from the Taoyuan Police Station, Erdaojiang District, Tonghua City at 4:00 p.m. on April 23, 2008. Two police officers used Ms. Sun's landlord as bait to knock on her door. When she answered the door, the policemen grabbed her, twisted her arms behind her back, and forced her to the ground. The police then searched her apartment. Ms. Sun asked them to show her a warrant, but they did not respond. The officers took a box that they found, covered her head with it, and dragged her out to a car.

The police officers took Ms. Sun to the Taoyuan Police Station and tied her to an iron chair. When she said that the arrest was illegal, they ridiculed her. One officer said that she had been told to inform the police of her whereabouts anytime she left home. Ms. Sun then questioned if this was what she was arrested for. The officers then went silent.

After a long period of time, the police removed the box from Ms. Sun's head. An officer then came in with a portfolio and tried to interrogate her, but Ms. Sun refused to answer any questions. The director of the Taoyuan Police Station replied, "Didn't you want to practice [Falun Gong]? If you practice, I will arrest you."

Ms. Sun was taken to the Changliu Detention Center after she had been tied to the iron chair for more than seven hours. The police grabbed her by her hair and dragged her out of the car. Some time later, Ms. Sun left the police station with intense lower abdominal and lower back pain, a deep, wide gash across her right hand, and two, inch-long gouges on the back of her left hand. At the same time, police ransacked her home, harassed her family, and arranged for people to monitor them.
