(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yu Jiakun, about 60, is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Weicheng District, Weifang City, Shandong Province. She has been retired for many years and her husband passed away several years ago. She lives with her son and daughter-in-law, both practitioners, and helps take care of her grandson, who is less than a year old. Ms. Yu is a very kind person and a hard worker. She does not have much in her retirement but her family has lived happily together. Because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has used "safety during the Olympics" as an excuse to further persecute Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Yu and her family have suffered multiple arrests and extortion at the hands of the local CCP government in the last month.
On the morning of July 9, 2008, officers from Nanguan Police Station in the Weicheng District tricked Ms. Yu's family into opening the door. They violently restrained Ms. Yu and her son, Mr. Wang Junjie (about 30), then they ransacked their home, taking all the Falun Gong books they found, pictures of Teacher Li, and a computer. They wanted to put Ms. Yu in a detention center but when a physical exam showed she was not in good health, the center refused to admit her. They released her after demanding 1,500 yuan from her family.
That was not the end of their troubles. During the next month, the police harassed Ms. Yu's family multiple times. On or around August 6, Ms. Yu and her daughter-in-law visited a relative for several days. Police from Nanguan grew increasingly hostile and impatient and they kept harassing Ms. Yu's relatives, trying to find her. They searched her daughter's home but still did not find Ms. Yu. Then, they took Ms. Yu's daughter into custody and tried to force her to tell them where her mother was. Her daughter really did not know but she was still illegally detained for one day.
On the evening of August 10, officers from Nanguan Local Office and from Nanguan Police Station went to Ms. Yu's home again. Mr. Wang Junjie was the only person at home and he refused to open the door. Police used a blind person who worked as a locksmith to unlock her door. They unlocked the burglar-proof door, kicked it open, and arrested Mr. Wang. Mr. Wang was first taken to Nanguan Police Station and then to a brainwashing center in Weifang City the next day. On August 12, Ms. Yu and her daughter-in-law came home and learned that Ms. Yu's son had been arrested. They went to the brainwashing center and demanded he be released. The center asked for 3,000 yuan in exchange for Mr. Wang's release. Ms. Yu's family is poor and they did not have the money. Since then, local officials have kept surveillance on her family 24 hours a day. As soon as she goes out, local officials ask where she went.
On August 14, Mr. Wang Junjie developed severe health problems in the brainwashing center. The officials were afraid of being held responsible for his health, so they released him.
