Mr. Liu Chaokun and Others Arrested in Xinjiang, Uighur Autonomous Region

Aug. 30, 2008

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Liu Chaokun, along with his wife Ms. Chen Ping, and his niece Ms. Liu Hongxia, all Falun Gong practitioners, were reported to the authorities. In early July 2008, police officers went to their home and arrested them. Several family members who happened to be in the home at the time were also arrested but later released. Mr. Liu is being held in the Tianshan District Detention Center. Ms. Chen Ping and Ms. Liu Hongxia are being detained at the Liudaowan Women's Detention Center in Urumqi City.

Mr. Liu's family includes his mother, who is in her eighties, and a child who is away at college (now in summer vacation). Before Ms. Liu Hongxia was arrested, she had been taking care of her deceased sister's toddler. As a result of the arrests, three family members were left at home to fend for themselves to the best of their abilities. The elderly mother was forced to carry the baby to the 610 Office and beg for the release of her loved ones. However, the arrest of the three practitioners appears final and they are facing trial.

In addition, at 5:00 p.m. on June 23, 2008, over 20 police officers from the Urumqi City Department, the Shuimogou District Department, and the Tougong Station went into practitioners' homes and arrested four more practitioners: Ms. Xu Rong, who is in her 40s; a practitioner named Fu, given name and gender unknown, 70 years old; Ms. Li Yulan, 66 years old; and Ms. Chen Xiulan, 70 years old. They are now in the Shuimogou District Detention Center.

Mr. Cui Xiangdong, a Beijing resident, was recently sentenced to four years in prison by representatives of the CCP at the Urumqi City Court. In July 2007, Mr. Cui went on a business trip to Urumqi City where he distributed DVDs of the Nine Commentaries after work. On July 30, 2007, he was arrested by agents from the local 610 Office and the National Security Office. He was tried in mid-June 2008 and sentenced to four years in prison on contrived charges of "trying to subvert state power."
