Do Not Kill

Sept. 24, 2008 |   By a practitioner in Taiwan

(Clearwisdom.net) I went out to dinner with my two children a few days ago. The experience I had was special, but it also illuminated a shortage of compassion in my heart.

Not killing is an absolute requirement for practitioners. Therefore, I naturally put live oysters back when I have a hot pot meal. That day I did not have enough to eat at lunch, and then I did a great deal of physical labor in the afternoon, so I ordered a hot pot meal in a restaurant. I felt normal, both physically and mentally. When an attendant lit the fire for the hot pot on the table, I noticed an oyster being placed in the pot. Later I realized there were four in the pot. It suddenly came to me that I must get the oysters out, but as I was hungry, I did not do it.

About a minute later, I felt uneasy and my body was very uncomfortable. My children did not know what was going on and repeatedly asked me what was wrong. The clearest sign that something was wrong was that my tongue felt like cooked oyster meat and was slightly curled up. I barely ate some rice in my bowl. I just could not swallow anything from the hot pot. I went outside and practiced the first Falun Dafa exercise on the sidewalk and gradually returned to normal. I went back into the restaurant and told my kids, "I did not have compassion and just killed living creatures!" As soon as I enlightened, I immediately felt very at ease. This 15-minute episode was witnessed by my two children, and they call it miracle.
