Ms. Liu Jingyan, 71, Developed Severe Mental Disorder Due to Gross Abuse at the Harbin Women's Prison

Nov. 13, 2009

(Clearwisdom.net) (By a correspondent from Heilongjiang) Ms. Liu Jingyan and five other practitioners, including Wu Feng, Yang Li, Cai Guiqin, Cai Guifang and Cai Guirong clarified the facts about Falun Gong in Hongxinglong, Jiamusi, in July 2008. Officers from the Hongxinglong Police Department illegally arrested them and took them into custody. The practitioners were sentenced to four years of imprisonment in December 2008, and sent to the Harbin Women's Prison. Ms. Liu has been abused there so severely that she suffers from several illnesses. Although her life is in danger, the prison authorities refuse to release her.

Ms. Liu, 71, lives in Wangjiang Town, Jiamusi suburb, Heilongjiang Province. This older lady had all her illnesses cured after she began practicing Falun Gong, and she has treated others with kindness. She is now being held in the No. 7 Ward at Harbin Women's Prison. Her family has requested her release many times, but the prison authorities refused to release her. Last week, when Ms. Liu's family visited her, they saw that she was unable to think clearly, incoherent, and unwilling to speak. She was also physically weak and emaciated.

The head of the No. 7 Ward said that Ms. Liu suffers from several illnesses, including high blood pressure, serious gynecological diseases, tuberculosis (coughing up blood), heart disease, cerebral thrombosis, and cataracts (blurred vision). The persecution and ill treatment Ms. Liu has been subjected to have recently caused her to have a severe mental disorder. She wanders around aimlessly, and prison authorities have ordered special individuals to watch her.

Ms. Liu Jingyan's family is worried about her safety and has demanded and applied for her release. They decided to go to visit her again and ask for her release on November 5, 2009. If anything [bad] should happen to Ms. Liu, her family will appeal and hold those responsible accountable.
