(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yun Performing Arts staged several shows at Honolulu's Blaisdell Concert Hall, Hawaii's premier performing arts theater, on March 30 and 31, 2009.

Ms. Mochimura, a professional designer, watched the performance. She was very impressed, saying "It was beautiful. Excellent. Especially the color [and the] the portrayal of the stories."

Ms. Mochimura and Mr. Colwell were impressed with the Shen Yun performance

She felt that Shen Yun provided a "great interpretation" of the stories from the past. As a designer, she most liked "The costumes, the whole story portrayal. The interpretation has just been fascinating. It's a beautiful, beautiful show. I recommend anyone and everyone to come to see it."

Mr. Colwell, who works at the emergency operations center at the state Civil Defense Department, was delighted with the performance as well. He said, "Each of the dances are very, very pretty. It looks like the interpretations reflect closely what came in the past in the Han Dynasty or other dynasties throughout China."

He said, "I especially like the dance and costumes of the Dance of the Yi. Yes, that was really pretty. And the coming of spring [Welcoming Spring] was very pretty, I enjoyed that very much."

Mr. Colwell added, "I'm having a good time. I'm glad I bought tickets for this. It looks like art and culture have been suppressed in China by the communists through the years, trying to prevent anything that looks like it ... from being performed. The communist government does not like that kind of stuff. They want to plant their own culture in China."

Anna has been a Filipino folk dancer and currently works for the city of Honolulu. She also teaches professional voice lessons. "I love to perform, that's why I'm here. When I was in college I used to perform cultural dances, right now I professionally teach voice lessons," said Anna outside the concert hall.

Anna was thrilled to see Shen Yun because it is very different from the Filipino dancing that she is used to. She mentioned that some Filipino folk dances incorporate Chinese dances. Anna was impressed with the classical dancing that she saw from Shen Yun.

Anna mentioned that the Shen Yun Mongolian Chopsticks dance reminded her of the most famous Filipino dance called The Bamboo Dance.

Mr. Duran, a retired cosmetologist and a specialist in theatrical makeup, was also there to see this creation. Mr. Duran said he was "enjoying it immensely" and found it "very entertaining."

He owned a salon for 11 years and then worked in theater until he retired. He is very skilled in theater makeup, knowing and understanding all the finer techniques of the art. He was sitting 11 rows from the front and could see the performers' faces clearly.

"It's very important--they have all done a very good job with their makeup. The colors are all very good, the light is very bright in the theater, and they are very well matched." On a scale from 1 to 10, Mr. Duran said the make up for the performance was a 10.

Mr. Duran explained, "With my background - I come from dancing, the performing arts, the costume design, and makeup - so I enjoyed the whole aspect of this performance. I like the music, the softness of it, and the movement of the performing artists, it was very well done. I like the choreography. Very soothing. ... Very enjoyable."
