Xi'an City: Mr. Chen Mingan and Family Persecuted for Their Beliefs

Oct. 5, 2010 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Shaanxi Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Mingan and his daughter Chen Jie from Xi'an City took an evening walk on September 14, 2010. They were arrested by domestic security police from the Baqiao District and have since remained in police custody.

Since the Chinese Communist regime began persecuting Falun Gong eleven years ago, Chen Mingan and his family have suffered from severe persecution. After the factory he worked for fired Mr. Chen, his family's living conditions took a nose-dive. His wife was unemployed for years. Their daughter, Chen Jie, was still in elementary school when he was sent to a forced labor camp for the first time, so she was raised by relatives. The father has barely spent time with his daughter due to repeated imprisonment.

Mr. Chen met with some practitioners on December 28, 1999, to share cultivation experiences. Xincheng District police agents arrested him and sent him to a forced labor camp for a year.

He was again arrested in April 2001 at the hands of Xi'an Domestic Security police. A few months later, on August 23, 2001, he was sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. At the conclusion of the term he was sent to a brainwashing center at the Xi'an Workers' Rehab Center for three months. His company, Northwestern Metal Structure Plant, fired him in 2001. He was released in November 2004.

On May 3, 2005, Mr. Chen clarified the facts to people in Chengcheng County in Shaanxi Province. An informant's report to police got him arrested again. He was sent to a forced labor camp for 15 months, and the police ransacked his home.

Two years afterward, while distributing informational material to the public on June 1, 2007, Mr. Chen's wife Huo Meilian was arrested and sent to a forced labor camp for a year. The police searched their home.

On September 30, 2007, Xi'an City Hujiamiao Residential Area's Party members took Chen Mingan to Xi'an Workers' Rehab Center for the second time. He was incarcerated for six months.

Mr. Chen was once again taken into custody on July 7, 2008. Participating in this latest arrest were agents from the Xincheng Police Department and Hujiamiao Police Station, together with security personnel from the Hujiaomiao Residential Office and his former employers. He spent three months in a brainwashing center, followed by a 15-months in a forced labor camp. He was released in February 2010.

The couple has endured harsh mistreatment during their long periods in labor camps. Mr. Chen was subjected to various tortures, including being hung by his hands from a heating pipe with his body being suspended in mid-air for an hour, being chained to a death bed for 15 days, punches and kicks, and sleep deprivation. The couple was also confined in solitary cells with no daylight, and deprived of sleep for days, in addition to other physical abuses.
